Original post: According to a reliable source, US Bank plans to begin issuing an instant credit card number upon card approval which can be used in your mobile wallet or online.

There is no hard date on when this feature will come to card applications; they intend to begin this feature with the upcoming Altitude Go card, which is set to launch on June 8th, and eventually roll it out to all US Bank cards in the near future.

We’ll add this to our List of Credit Cards that Issue an Instant Card Number Upon Approval.

Update 6/5/20: Apparently the instant card number option is only for those processing a credit card application with their text-to-apply option which only can happen for an application processed by a banker, either in-branch, over the phone, or via email.

  • US Bank Connect card shows full details upon approval, and card was usable online immediately (part CL available). Applied online in usual way.

  • I have just got approved for the US Bank connect card and the number is not showing up. So guys don't depend on this. I even have the altitude reserve and checking account with them.

    • Just got approved for a Leverage biz card today and I see it in my already existing account (I have personal CCs with them).

  • I just wanted to nominate throwitawayssswipe as the humanitarian of the year. What an awesome screen name! 👍

  • Just got approved for a biz card a couple days ago. But it's not showing up in my portal (it's Triple Cash; already have a Leverage in my online portal). How to access a new card if it doesn't show up?

  • Does anyone has first hand experience going with their text-to-apply option for instant credit card number for US bank credit card? I want to do it for US bank Altitude connect card.

  • As a bank, I'd be weary of any customer that needs an "instant" card number. Not for purposes of potential fraud or what not, but I'd be concerned about someone's spending habits if they can't possibly wait a few days to get a card in the mail.

    • Issuing an instant card number could be valuable to a bank because it makes it less likely that a customer will request expedited shipping of their physical card, reducing their costs. Whether you believe it or not or are affected by it or not, the excitement of a new card is real for some people and they will be more likely to use their new card if they get that instant gratification. Two of my recent cards took almost two weeks to show up. With an instant card number, I could have started using the card immediately, thus generating processing fees for the bank and rewards for me, win-win.

    • I seriously hope this person is trolling. Seriously "red flag" for employee who churns credit cards? Must not be good at one's job if employer checks the person's credit card churns XD.

      • Lots of jobs require background checks. Would you hire a VP Finance who has had adverse actions, shutdowns, or was drowning in debt? lol
Not to mention public trust positions

    • You should start your own bank because obviously you know more about banking than US Bank.

    • What if someone has a big purchase coming up and can't wait for the card to be delivered and they been holding off on getting a new card so they can get the bonus?

      • I don't really have much respect for churners or people chasing sign-up bonuses. All my prior posting history here has been for responsible behavior linked to the best yielding ONGOING rewards. Churners and anyone else pinning for a quickie bonus don't fit in that category as far as my opinion is concerned.

        • Sounds like you are jealous of those folks who have the ability to maximize the opportunity of sign up bonuses and churning.

I sure am since I’m still not in a position to churn, earn, and burn freely right now. However I know in due time I will have ability to do so. New and young folk can’t do what the veteran and older folk do in this game.

          • Sounds like you don’t know much about it. I work in corporate finance. It’s not jealousy, it’s just common sense to be able to continue my career in finance. Churning is a red flag for employees in my industry.

          • Red flag yet you “corporate financers” can’t do anything about it? Ok so not jealous but incompetent?

          • @guest_992228 Im on the churners side but dude stop, you're making us look like retards with your nonsense..

          • Lol, it’s the troll again. Nothing to contribute, quick to insult, and hiding in anonymity. I love it how you get riled up with my posts.

          • Dude ugh it wasn't who you thought it was. I'm considering establishing a profile now, Vy has gone too far

        • When banks start to rewarding longevity over bonuses aimed at finding new suckers then I will stop chasing bonuses. The banks aren't offering bonuses out of the goodness of their heart... they want people to get underwater, splurge on big expensive "purchases", and then have to apply for even more products/loans/cards when they can't pay it off.

If they want to issue a number instantly... I see no issue with that. I personally wait to start my spending anyway, but this just gives people more time to earn their signup bonus. USAA issues CC numbers instantly, but has a limited CL, as I recall.

        • 'I don’t really have much respect for churners or people chasing sign-up bonuses.'

Probably on the wrong website then.

          • I find value in your news scoops for reward plan changes and new product launches. Not a daily habit for sure, but a once or twice a month habit to catch up on it all. But otherwise no, I don't need to chase every $100 deal here and there.

          • There's a difference between personally not finding deals useful and not respecting people that do find them useful...

          • There's also a difference between people pursuing deals versus those who jump through hoops to commit the types of shenanigans for which card issuers or airlines end up clawing back points and miles. I don't respect the people in the latter group and stand by that.

    • What about in store cards or airline cards? Say you're at some big-box store and making a large purchase and want to get the 10% sign up bonus or whatever. Or decided to take a flight and don't want to risk a price/availability change after waiting a few days.

  • What about making the 325 eligible for grocery spend? Like chase? And cashing out points for grocery spend at 1.5c?

Why is the US BANK lagging?

    • Chase is doing something similar as well.

Before I got my Amazon rewards card, I got an email from Chase stating that I could add it to my mobile wallet and use it before the card arrives.

      • @guest_991382 they gave you the card number for ordinary purchases or do you mean they made the card available for Amazon purchases in your Amazon wallet/account?

        • They have an option in the app that says `add to mobile wallet' or something similar. This option works before you receive and verify the card, but once a card is assigned to you.

While it is not the same thing and you still don't get to know the number, you can at least use it via you mobile wallet (Apple/Google/Samsung etc.). However, since they don't give access to the number directly, you can't add it to your Amazon payments.

    • Given how paranoid of a lender Chase is, don't expect it to happen anytime soon lol
