[Expired] Swagbucks: Buy 200 For $2 (Free Credit Card Spend; Total $8 Per Day)

The Offer

Direct Link to offer

  • Swagbucks is offering 200 Swagbucks for $2.
  • You can buy two at a time, or $4 per purchase. You can typically do it twice per day. That amounts to $8 total per day. You need to wait some time, perhaps 10 minutes, between the two purchases.

These can be paid for with any credit card, and Swagbucks can be cashed out via Paypal or other methods at a minimum of 1 cent per point.

Our Verdict

It’s basically a fee-free way of racking up spend. Typically you can buy two per day, though sometimes people are able to squeeze in more orders. Last go-round it was for $5 increments, $20 per day, which was worth the hassle for some people. In the past, the deals went on for many weeks, and people racked up a small chunk of spend over time.

At $8 per day it’s much less exciting, but still might be worthwhile for someone having difficulty with a spend requirement. Also useful for draining Visa/MC gift cards, assuming they allow that this time. (Last time, they went back and forth on allowing gift cards as payment.) You will also help reach your daily goal meter with these purchases.

Important Note: While these purchases are not taxable, if you cash out your Swagbucks as Paypal credits they will likely count toward your potential Paypal $600 1099-K threshold since Paypal can’t tell this money came as ‘Buy SB’ credits. Consider avoiding this deal if you’re concerned with getting a form 1099-K from Paypal and want to remain under $600. If you cash out your Swagbucks with other gift cards (e.g. Mastercard or Amazon gift cards), Swagbucks will not count this toward the $600 Swagbucks 1099-K reporting requirement since they know which credits came from ‘Buy SB’ credits which are not counted on the 1099-K.

  • I still buy SB even though the promotion ended. Most gift cards stopped working last year but I had still been able to use an Amex gift card. Today it didn't go through and I'm wondering if they finally banned those too. Has anyone else experienced this?

  • Bummer that it ended so quickly...I wasn't worried about maxing this everyday but I was trying to figure out the frequency you could buy without error.

10 minutes between two buys - error
24 minutes between two buys - success

Using the same card between P1 and P2 seems to carry through (10 minutes between P1 and P2 on same card resulted in error).

Didn't have enough time to fine tune between 10 and 24 minutes before this expired.

  • Does Swagbucks have some need to sell so many points per quarter? Seems like the promotion is often at the end of the quarter. Since this one was small and ended early, I guess they were already near their quota. Otherwise, why not just sell like this all the time?

    • there has been some speculation that it may be a way to raise capital quickly that could be cheaper than loans at current rates.

    • Has been working once a day for me lately at the 2X rate. Another data point. If you get an error probably from using the same card for you and p2, try again later with another credit card. I've had some success with this and have given up on sharing same card with p2.

When I try twice in one day I get the below message highlighted in red:

There was an unexpected error processing your request. Please try again or contact Customer Support.

        • 10min interval minimal between 1st and 2nd attempt. After 2nd attempt, no matter what message you get (error or success), you're done for the day.

      • I just did it this morning. I was able to do 2x (of $4) around 5 minutes apart.

  • Just did this twice and it already cut me off. Will try again tomorrow. Nothing fancy for me. Just for that month 13% discount on GC.

  • I can't get this to go thru, have tried 4 different credit cards. I buy SB almost every day normally...

    • For some reason Swagbucks just stops accounts from being able to do this periodically. I have P1 and P2 account, both of which always use a different IP address. The most days I've ever been able to purchase in a row is 27 and randomly it won't allow me to purchase, usually not for more than 2 days. Just wait a few days and try again. I can't figure out a rhyme or reason as to why.

    • Sorry to hear that. I've made three successful purchases so far with a CSP.

Not that you asked, but for other readers, note that multiple data points below suggest VGC's don't work.

  • reminder from last time that most gift cards have been locked out. apparently amex virtual reward cards still work.
