Update 9/9/24: Increased to $43. Hat tip to ML

Update 1/18/22: Deal has now increased from $25 to $30. Offer link

Updates: See this comment for tips on how to save on trade fees and how to trigger the $5 Coinbase signup bonus on top of the $25 Swagbucks bonus. Also, readers note that Drop has a similar offer worth $35 (in gift cards), better than the Swagbucks offer.

The Offer

Direct Link to offer

  • Swagbucks is offering 2,500 3,000 SB when you sign up for a new Coinbase account and make a trade within 6 months.

The Fine Print

  • Only available to new Coinbase customers
  • Must create a Coinbase account through the Swagbucks affiliate link
  • Must enter valid signup info, SSN and account funding information
  • Must make first crypto trade within 6 months of account creation
  • Swagbucks will appear as Pending for 32 days

Our Verdict

Please note, I don’t personally trade crypto and don’t necessarily recommend crypto as an investment strategy. Some people like putting some amount of money in crypto or like doing the Coinbase freebie deals, so this is a good way of getting a $25 bonus along the way. MyPoints has a similar deal as well.

If you’re new to Swagbucks then please read our review. You can get a bonus of up to $13 by using a referral link.

  • Does anyone load their coinbase account with gift cards bought from a 3rd party? I did it but apparently hit a limit of some kind and can't find out what the limit is. CB customer service was no help at all. Every time I try to load a CB GC, it says, "Try again later." At one point, I waited a few days and it worked but now it isn't working at all.

Anyone know if they have a 30 day limit, monthly limit, or any other kind of limit to load?

  • USDC is still $0 trading fees and no tax (though you will need to report the trade on your taxes)

  • Did this for my wife. Took a couple days for it to show as pending.

This is a slightly better deal than using the referral system.

Referral system = $10 btc for referrer and referee, total $20.
Swagbucks = $25 sb offer, $5 btc, total $25... plus 10% sb (or $2.50) if that person was referred to sb by you.

  • After fees, that's like what 5 bucks? If you do any sort of real crypto, upgrade to Coinbase Pro (which is free).

    • Last time I looked at fees for consumer Coinbase, it was:

$0.99 fee for purchases of $0-10 (10% fee on $10)
      $1.49 fee for purchases of $10.01 to $25 (6% fee on $25)
      $1.99 fee for purchases of $25.01 to $50 (4% fee on $50)
      $2.99 fee for purchases of $50.01 to $200 (3% fee on $100 and 1.495% fee on $200)
For anything over $200 the fee is 1.49%

Or the fee is usually 0.50% for Coinbase Pro transactions.

      • Ahha, so it should be possible to buy $1 in crypto and pay a $.99 fee and net $23-$24 on this deal

        • One other important note: buying or selling USDC ($1 stablecoin) doesn't have fees on Coinbase. If you buy $100 USDC then you should get the Coinbase SUB too of $5 Bitcoin. (I'm not sure if the Swagbucks offer stacks with Coinbase's normal SUB, but I can't imagine why it wouldn't). Should be $30 net for this promo. With fees then it's still a moneymaker to buy $100 of a non-USDC coin, $3 fee vs $5 BTC SUB.

I forgot about USDC not having fees, but that should be the best route.

          • Buying/selling USDC also does not cause a taxable event at least in terms of the gain/loss on crypto. It's reportable on your transaction history but no actual tax due

        • It isn't 2.49% (except something related to their debit card). They don't seem to document the fees anymore, but you can experiment with different values to see the fee. For small amounts like $5 they charge a fixed $0.99 fee, which is a pretty big percentage. For a little bit bigger amount like $15, it's $1.49; for $100 it's $2.99. At some point they seem to switch to 1.49%. Plus a spread.

          • Thanks for correcting. I haven't used regular Coinbase in so long that I forgot how awful the pricing structure is compared to Pro.

  • Drop is offering $35 now, has gone up to $50. On a different offer I have used drop and also got credited from mypoints as I had previously clicked through there
