Our Verdict

You’ll want to make sure the items you’re buying have the “Spend $60, Get $60 CASHBACK in points” or “Spend $50, Get $50 CASHBACK in points” text (see below). Make sure you also have a plan for what you plan to do with the points, as they do expire after 7 days.

  • We just noticed our local sears has "store closing" signs up. My wife looked a bit sad. I'm sure she was wondering how we'll make Land's End returns. Every time I've gone into the store to make a return the only customers were also making Land's End returns.

I may actually bother to go in and look for tool deals on closeout as a final goodbye to a great brand name that was the king of retail.

  • I imagine we can share our experiences here--I had a really bad one with SYWR where I wanted to return an item and they refused to do it to the method of payment and instead wanted to do it to a SYWR credit. I had to go back and forth with them for a while before they finally did it, so beware!

  • They marked up the prices of some of that stuff before the deal, but Sears pricing is all over the map in any case. The Kenmore microwaves are within $10 of their usual prices so that's a good deal if you're looking for one.

On another note, I went shopping with my points in store yesterday and bought some new 1000 tc cotton sheet sets for $27 each yesterday, but the website sells them for $109. Then I found a kitchenaid hand mixer I know sells for 31.99 on clearance online, but in store it was 59.99. I tried to buy it for in store pickup online but the website didn't realize there was stock in my store for some reason.

  • Meh, it's a shame that they limit what the points can be spent on, which is so often the case, but every so often you get lucky, and it's on something, need, and would've bought or is for something you would actually go to buy, (Land's end / Levi's /DeWalt and others are normally excluded).

But every so often, a sweet deal comes along. I have gotten a few deals for tools/equipment I use in my business, but rarely been able use SYWR points on personal goods or storewide.

Last Black Friday/Cyber Monday was pretty awesome and a nice outlier , $160 on a 270 piece toolset and toolbox w/free s&h (something I was going to buy for my business anyway).

Ultimately itwas worth $225 in points that generated more points foe storewide use.
I used the points on a Samsung 5.1 wireless surround sound system with soundbar and wireless sub and rear speakers, a pair of Lugz for jeans and causal wear, and two pairs of store label slip-on shoes for walking the dog or taking out the trash. After the tax write on the tools it should reduce tax obligations another $20-45.

  • The only reason I shop at Sears/kmart is for entertainment about how poor their processes are. Their SYWR points are a big time suck trying to jump through all the hoops find a deal that will work with a coupon On Wednesday during a full moon. I value SYWR at about 30% of cash & about 10% of cash if I figure in time wasted shopping for the deal.

    • Nope, that's EXACTLY how it works.... Last week when they had a similar deals in tools, I test shopped a series of Craftsman tools I'd long had my eye on.... some I knew had regularly been marked down to $10..... But the on-line price was $15.... (!) I held off and happened to check in the local Sears (in Hoo'ville, VA) And sure enough, the various tools were still on sale ($10).....

Con job. Very sad -- as I DO want Sears to survive. (just loathe the CEO snake who killed a once good brand)

    • which may still be a bad deal. (as most products are often marked down regularly 30-50%..... so if you're buying something not marked down, you't not doing so well. But if you're finding something you actually want that's already marked down, and then add the 50% -- with the caveat you need a plan for what you'll spend the points on.... then fine.... in my case, yup tires... though I have little faith Sears will still be around to honor the rotation/balancing deals)
