  • American Express is offering some SPG personal cardholders spending bonuses. Register by May 30th and earn a $50 statement credit after each $1,500 you spend in eligible purchases on your card through August 10th, 2018. Up to $100
  • Others have the same offer but it’s 7,500 points for every $3,000 in spend up to 15,000 points.
  • Or $125 statement credit for every $10,000 in spend, up to $250 in statement credits

Our Verdict

Seems to be a continuation of the same deal, with a new set of targeted people and different registration/spend by dates. This works out to be an 3.3% cash back plus the 1x SPG points per $1 spent you’d normally earn if you spent exactly $1,500 or $3,000. Although keep in mind the spending rates will change on August 1st to 2 Marriott points per $1 spent (currently it’s 3x as 1 SPG = 3 Marriott).

  • I'm jwpapa2. It should show up at the top when you log in to your AMEX and also in the AMEX offers list if you are targeted. The theory I heard is that these offers would show up when your card approaches the AF charge date. Mine is coming up in 1.5mo.

  • My offer was a $75 statement credit for each $3000 of spend, up to $150 in credits. Would have preferred to get the 7500 points

  • $100 credit wyb $5000, up to $200 credits. I really want to build my SPG/Marriott points, but the transition this summer has me a bit nervous on the value of these points after the changes. Anyone have any insight?

  • Any DP for people that are seeing this offer AND already called asking for retention offer

    • I'm jwpapa2 who reported this in churning DD thread last night. My second AF is coming up in 1.5mo, and I haven't call them for a retention offer yet. Got 10k points with no spending requirement in March last year when they were handing those out like crazy, so it's been just over 13 months since I got the retention offer and their clock should have just been reset.

  • I received "Use your Card now through August 10, 2018 and you can earn a $125 statement credit after each $10,000 you spend in eligible purchases on your Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card, up to a $250 statement credit."

    It showed up when I logged in and selected my SPG card (default card on my amex log in is not SPG)
