Our Verdict
Two readers just mentioned getting this offer, either via popup in their login or via email. If you haven’t had the card before, you’re better off doing this 100,000 + 10% signup bonus offer, but if not eligible for that offer, then this is a really nice deal. If you have any questions about upgrade offers, please read this post before asking any questions. General American Express questions are likely answered here.

I’m planning to seek retention for my gold card before upgrading. My last retention offer was 15 months ago. If I got a retention that requires $3k spend in 3 months then upgraded before doing the spend (this $3k spending for retention seems to be standard now based on FT comments). Then the upgrade spending for the offer on my card is $6k.
Q1. If I upgrade immediately after receiving retention offer, will I still get the retention bonus after meeting both spending requirements, or does upgrading invalidate a retention bonus if spending has not been met?
Q2. Will I need to spend $3k + $6k or just $6k total (but I guess I’ll find this out if I get a retention offer then upgrade and have spent at least $6k)?
I had a Green card that I recently upgraded to a Gold for 40,000 points last month. Now, that same card has the 75,000 upgrade offer for Platinum (I've had both the Gold and Platinum before). I'm thinking of completing the Gold upgrade bonus then upgrading for the Platinum bonus. Any RAT concerns with upgrading a card twice in two months?
There should not be. I’ve done this before on a no-fee Hilton upgraded to Surpass then to Aspire in the span of 2 months. Of course this was back in 2020 so things could have changed a lot in 2 years.
I called recently to upgrade a Gold to Platinum. I was offered 25k MR for $2k spend. I took it because I had no idea something like 75k would ever be an option.
Got 100k and 5% back on gas, groceries and restaurants for 6 months
Did you upgrade??
Just letting you know the card details are not up to date.
Forget about the signup bonus. I want SPG status!
"SPG gold status (this will also give you Marriott Gold status)"
Anyone ever receive one of these while holding a platinum?
Yes (normal 25k upgrade).
I got the Retention bonus for my Amex gold card 3 months back. Is it okay to get the upgrade offer now?
I'm in same boat
You can always upgrade without a worry. It’s PCing or cancelling that’s a problem
Cool thank you!
I have the same question.
I've had the 75K upgrade offer for a few weeks already, but I'm gonna keep holding out for a 100K offer.
I got a 100k points after spending $6k in 6 months and 5x points on restaurants, gas and groceries for 6 months up to 50k.
