Under which Amex card were you seeing this offer? I am not seeing under any of my cards so far.
Mine was there yesterday morning was going to check which card had better rental insurance option then when I went back later in the afternoon it was gone :(
Avis needs to spin off Budget it’s disgusting franchises company
I just did a rental for work travel using my work's AWD code and noticed a lot stricter language in my confirmation emails about AWD numbers for companies and having to show proof at the rental counter:
"This reservation was made using a corporate AWD (Avis Worldwide Discount Code) that requires validation of eligibility. Please be prepared to produce your company ID, business card, or a recent email with the company’s email domain (e.g. @xyzcompany.com) for employment verification purposes when picking up your vehicle."
For years there have been tons of AWD codes all over the internet for countless companies and they never cared or bothered to ask... seemingly the only time you might run into an issue is if you had to report an accident. If you are Preferred(or higher) and use another random AWD code, are they really checking for your company badge when you go to leave the airport parking garage in your assigned vehicle? It is much easier for them to ask to see it at off-airport sites where you have to talk to a person to get your assigned vehicle and keys...
Anyone else have any experiences with that? Or is it just more visible language/warnings to try and discourage renters from using AWD codes from other companies?
I've used my company's AWD with Avis rentals for years and only once has anyone questioned me on it or asked for proof; and it was at the crappiest, most rinky dink tiny regional airport. (I didn't even fly in or out of there, but it was the most convenient pickup location near where I was staying.) Even though I work for the company whose AWD I was using, I'd used the code so many times for so long without being challenged that it had never even occurred to me that I'd need proof, so I didn't have company ID on me, but thankfully I had the company name and logo on my health insurance card and the Avis manager was willing to accept that.
In general it seems like Avis employees - with a few exceptions - couldn't care less.
I don't have personal experience with this (I have only ever used the AWD of my actual employer) but I have heard that for higher value AWDs (of which my company is one) they can be a bit more strict; not necessarily with employees checking in person but with Avis validating on the backend somehow that you actually work for the company whose AWD you're using.
Just used a corporate code legitimately and was asked for corporate ID at the counter. However, I had to go to counter to add an additional driver (non-spouse) so I couldn't just head to the car. If you are signed up with preferred and don't need to head to the counter for any reasons I imagine you will just be showing your QR code upon exit with no verification needed.
Used (legitimately) a corporate code for a recent rental at ATL.
Just walked to the assigned car, drove it out, even used the QR code for contactless exit (amazing feature, really speeds up exiting). Never even saw an employee.
PSA: Don't use a corporate code you're not entitled to. Not worth the risk.
I'm not going to lecture on legality/ethics; I could honestly care less about the impact on a F500 company's annual P&L's. But financially, if there is ANY sort of incident (minor damage to the vehicle, breakdown, etc.) you could be on the hook for serious $$$. BEST case scenario there is you're not on the hook financially, but Avis DNR's you forever.
