Our Verdict

Nice deal if you plan to travel with Qatar Airways anyway but probably not enough to change booking habits.

  • No go for me, just booked a trip couple of days ago. Amex know which air lines I used to book so these offers are not target towards me.

  • Whoops we are flying Qatar would have been nice.

Also JetBlue code shares flights with Qatar and they are sometimes cheaper booked via JB

    • Literally every airline becomes ‘the devil’ if anything goes wrong. Yet, Qatar is fairly reliable. They were one of the few airlines that actually operated consistently during the worst times of the pandemic, which was especially impressive since Qatar Airways only flies international (and so many countries were closed off for so long). Anyway, sorry if you had a bad experience.

      • My experience has been good too so far. And I missed the flight once. Had to wait 2 days to get on the next flight (missed first flight from small domestic airport so the next identical one was 2 days later) without paying any fees.

Though, going to third world countries you get treated as such and arguably so. Flight to Qatar from US was pleasant and flight attendants were delightful. Flight from Qatar to third world country (won't name shame) both passengers and attendants were disappointingly rude.

I haven't flown enough on other airlines enough to earn a higher tier but one year I flew with them few times to earn higher tier and they personally come to your seat to welcome you onboard. I felt it was a nice touch.

        • Andie, I’m glad you made it home eventually.

Also, you reminded me of how words evolve:
          • Imperialism: The Colonies
          • Cold War: Third world countries
          • 2000s: Developing countries
          • 2018: S***hole countries
          • 2020s: The global south

And some, I assume, are good people.

Now, @George, would a shill from QA speak so candidly? LOL

          • Well I wouldn't put it past the fact that Oryx is Qatar Airways' mascot and entertainment brand.

Not that Oryx isn't species in itself but even when I saw Oryx name, I connected it to Qatar Airways rather than animal.

        • I’m a fan of this particular airline, not a shill. And I agree that it is good DoC allows us to speak freely here. Josh Cahill and reviewers like him are admirable because they provide insights for us fellow travelers, yet they are still beholden to the airlines as passengers (and if airlines decide to ban you, they will, and you may have to fight it for months after). Again, I would be upset too if anything went wrong with any airline I attempted to fly. Have had bad experiences with United, Delta, American, TWA (back in the day), and others. I’ve had to challenge via regulators (thanks US DOT, EU261) and credit card chargebacks. United 1K, AA Exec Plat, and Delta Diamond, but when it’s ‘your time’ to get screwed, that status rarely means anything to anyone. Just saying, I know how you feel, and I like Qatar Airways. Am I supposed to get paid to say this? LOL. Safe travels next time, George.

          • "not a shill" -- says the guy who named himself oryx... which happens to be Qatar's logo. Tell us you're majorly pro-QR & biased without telling us.

Anyways, I 200% agree with George. They still owe me $300 for the clothes I had to buy after they lost my luggage for a week.

  • Ideally, one would be targeted on their Platinum card (5x on airfare), and could book Qatar via Amex Travel to also take advantage of the discounts through the International Airline Program benefit. Would such a hypothetical charge apply for this offer, or would it have to be a booking through Qatar's website, not Amex Travel?
