The Fine Print

Our Verdict

Works out to be a saving of ~16.5% if you book exactly $600. Keep in mind this excludes fine hotels and resorts and you also won’t receive stay credits or have your elite status recognized if you’re booking at a chain hotel. If you don’t care about chain hotels/status then I think you’d likely be better off booking through Hotels.com anyway (when stacking discounts). This deal is better on Platinum cards now that they earn 5x Membership Rewards points on amextravel.com hotel bookings.

  • Actually, I've never not had my Marriott platinum status honored on third party bookings. I also received my welcome gift, lounge access, and free breakfast. I wish I could say the same for Hilton, which won't even grant free internet for diamond members, who book through a third party (even though ANYBODY booking directly through Hilton DOES get free wifi 😔).
Having said this, no, one does not receive loyalty credit or points for the stay (with the exception of the welcome points, which I did receive).

  • I could have sworn previous offers were more like 20% cash back. Now that they're offering 5x MR points, Amex offers cash back is also less. Would have been worth it if they've made the cash bac as MR.
