[Expired][Targeted] AmEx Offer: Spend $500+ On AmexTravel Hotels & Get 7,500/10,000 Membership Rewards points

This bonus has expired, make sure you don’t miss any deals by signing up for notifications.

The Offer

  • Get 7,500 additional Membership Reward points one-time by using your enrolled card to make a single purchase of $500+ for a prepaid hotel booking online at amextravel.com by 9/30/2017.
  • Some people are seeing the same offer but for 10,000 points with the same spend requirement of $500. Obviously this makes the deal better by 2,500 points (I haven’t updated the our verdict section, but I’m sure you can work it out)

The Fine Print

  • Excludes Fine Hotels & Resorts
  • Targeted offer, must use an enrolled card

Our Verdict

You need to spend the $500 in a single purchase. Both the Personal & Business versions of the American Express Platinum cards earn 5x points on AmexTravel hotel bookings, so if you spend exactly $500 you’d earn another 2,500 points bringing you to a total of 10,000 points for $500 in spend (20x points per $1 spent). That’s obviously a best case scenario though (spending exactly $500 and having American Express Platinum cards). Keep in mind the Fine Hotels & Resorts exclusion and also the fact that you won’t earn elite night stay credits or have your loyalty recognized at most chain hotels.

How useful this offer is really depends on how much you value Membership Rewards points and also how close to $500 you can spend. Personally I prefer to save with Hotels.com, but will keep this in mind if I have any stays close to $500 total. They have also had cashback deals in the past (most recent was spend $600, get $100 back).

  • Just got this on my Everyday card, nothing else. New expiry date.

    DETAILS

Get 10,000 additional Membership Rewards points one-time by using your enrolled Card to make a single purchase of $500+ for a prepaid hotel booking online at amextravel.com by 12/31/2017. See terms for exclusions.

  • Got it on one card, but not on the Biz and Pers Plat that would have earned 5x on amextravel

  • Does the $500 include taxes and fee? My room cost is only $470. It goes above $500 only after taxes? Anyone here with similar situation?

  • Spend $300+, get 3,500 Membership Rewards® Points
    Hilton Portfolio
    Expires 9/30

Not $60 off $300 but I missed that one and I booked a Hilton at 12:01am today. Coincidence?

    • Likely not a coincidence. I got the same on my platinum and haven't used it to book a Hilton before.

    • Random question to this point: If you have a >$600 bill can you split the final payment across two cards (e.g. Plat and PRG) on two separate accounts? I have both cards on separate accounts and was targeted for both.

Fine Print: Reservations must be made online at Hilton.com, via the Hilton Honors App or by calling 1-800-445-8667. Offer only valid at Hilton properties in the US & US territories. Offer does not apply to advance purchase rates, including Advance Purchase, Save Now & Pay and Non-refundable rates. Excludes gift card purchases. Corporate Cards are not eligible for this offer. Purchases may fall outside of the offer period in some cases due to a delay in merchants submitting transactions to us or if the purchase date differs from the date you made the transaction (for example, the purchase date for online orders may be the shipping date)... EARNING POINTS: Limit 1 enrolled Card per American Express Card online account and limit of 3,500 additional Membership Rewards points per Card.

      • You probably can. In my experience I've been able to call in and have the invoice adjusted to use a different payment method after the stay. It's a small pain but if the offer is good enough it should work.

  • 10k for $500 here. Plus the extra 2,500 points for spending on the plat through amex travel brings it to 12,500. Obviously a do. I love hotels.com but even if you're able to buy discounted gift cards for 20%, I still like this deal better.

    • Yeah, as long as you're spending close to $500 this one is a winner. I'd be all over this if it was cumulative but I often don't spend $500 in a booking.

  • I'm not getting any of these juicy Amex offers lately... I must be doing something wrong.
