[Targeted] AmEx Offer: Spending Bonuses On Various Cards (E.g Spend $6,500+ And Get 6,500 Points x 3)

The Offer

American Express has some targeted spending offers being shown in the AmEx Offers section. These offers vary by card/cardholder. From what I’ve seen, it appears to be showing mostly on various AmEx Membership Rewards business cards and on Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant cards, though some report seeing them on personal Membership Rewards cards too. The Bonvoy offers were sent out via email as well.

Sample offers:

  • Spend $6,500+ and get 6,500 Membership Rewards points, offer can be done up to 3 times.
  • Spend $5,500+ and get 1,500 Membership Rewards points, offer can be done up to 3 times.
  • Spend $1,000 on Bonvoy Brilliant by 12/24/20 and get 10,000 bonus points.
  • Spend $2,000 on Bonvoy Brilliant by 12/24/20 and get 20,000 bonus points.

  • My dad’s offer was 16.5k MR after spending $11k, up to 3 times. Expired 2/2 (mine expired 1/26, oddly). He spent $9500 in late 2020, then about $2k on 1/28. That put him over $11k. Even though he didn’t get the credit, he spent another $11.5k on 2/1 AM, and it’s posted as 2/1, so made the deadline. Should get 16.5k x2 but hasn’t gotten anything yet. Most of the charges are LA County property tax. I got my credits in November/December 2020 for paying the same LAC property tax, so unless something changed in the past 2 months, this qualifies.

  • Has anyone got their 2nd or 3rd set of bonus points? Met the 2nd spend on 1/31 but have yet to receive the points.

  • I got one of the better offers on BBP -- spend $4,500, get 6,500 MR points -- and even that seemed pretty chintzy.

    But now, with the $25 back on each $500 spend, I' putting some hustle in my bustle. I mean, these offers have to stack, right?

  • Do I get the prize for the worst offer? Spend $28,000 get 7,000 points, up to 3 times on my Business Platinum. That's a whopping extra 0.25 points per $1.

  • I got 3500 after 13500 in three months on BBP up to 3 times. I'd rather get free peanuts. Spend is not going to happen. I have other cards with better rewards to spend on in the next three months.
