[Expired] [Targeted] Amex Offers: Get 4x Bonus Membership Rewards at Walmart Grocery (up to 8x total)

Deal has expired, view more AmEx offers by clicking here.

The Offer

Check your points-earning Amex cards for the following Amex Offer deal:

  • Get 4x bonus Membership Rewards points at Walmart Grocery.

The Fine Print

  • Valid until 7/31/19. Get bonus on purchase through 12/31/19. (I interpret that to mean that you can save the offer through 7/31; once saved, it can be used through 12/31.)
  • Offer valid only on grocery.walmart.com.
  • Valid only on US website.
  • Excludes purchases on third party or affiliated websites linked with/from grocery.walmart.com (such as but not limited to Walmart.com, Walmart Contacts, Walmart Checks, Walmart Photo Services, Walmart Stationary, and Walmart Moneygram).

Our Verdict

Reddit user brimleywilford found this offer on their Amex Gold card which already earns 4x at supermarkets. Walmart Grocery codes as supermarkets that would land up with 8x points on your groceries which is pretty sweet. It’ll be even sweeter if Amex comes out with one of their $10 off $50 deals at Walmart Grocery which we’ve seen many times in the past.

Walmart Grocery carries tons of non-food items as well; so long as you checkout through Walmart Grocery you’ll get this bonus. Readers note you can do store pickup at an ordinary Walmart as well and trigger the offer, so long as the order was through Walmart Grocery.

I did this twice now, both times received the email… one never posted any bonus points and the other posted an extra 1x instead of 4 MR… it was on my gold card so not sure if they were trying to cap at 5 MR/$ but the terms state explicitly I should have received an extra 4 points per dollar…

I did this on Gold and EDP and only got 1 extra point on each. I called them and they opened a case. Said it would take a few days before they got back to me.

Same here. I explained per the terms it should be 8x. Rep agreed and “opened a case”. Two weeks later got a letter saying “You did receive the bonus”. With no regard to the point I made about it being 4x before the offer, so an extra 4x would be 8x. They literally posted a bonus of 1x for each on my account and dont understand that is not 4x extra. So stupid.

FWIW it’s the same with me… I’m triggering the offer, but it’s only giving me one extra MR instead of four. Hopefully since we’re all getting only 1x extra MR and the language in the offer is somewhat murky about when points are credited it will eventually work out.

I’m not holding my breath, though. 😐

Same here. $101 spent, 101 MR points for a 5X offer. I’m chatting online with a rep now. Told “Mack” there’s a thread about this issue and that I was expecting him to tell me he was opening a case, then I would not get a resolution. He replied, “I completely understand and this is definitely not something we want our valued card members to experience. I do see that your car was enrolled for the offer and your charge is eligible for the offer. I have escalated this to our dedicated Membership Rewards team. Please rest assured, you will receive a call back from them in next 3-5 business days.

Never thought I’d see Amex doing Walmart promotions. About a decade or so ago, word was, Amex used to have Walmart on their retail blacklist; and cardholders that shopped at places like Walmart were more likely to get shutdown and brought up on Financial Review.

Times have changed, and more people – from various incomes – are starting to accept Walmart.

Personally, I actually dislike going into Walmart more than I used to. I’m starting to dislike big box stores in general, though. Too much distance inside the store, and too much waiting to check out. I guess I need to get with the times and do the pickup stuff. But, I heard that even the pickup wait can be excessive.

I got this offer instead:
Get 200 additional Membership Rewards points by using your enrolled Card to make a single purchase of $5 or more using Apple Pay on your eligible mobile device by 9/30/2019. Limit of 1,000 Membership Rewards points. See terms for exclusions. Up to 5X.

Curious how this actually plays out. The terms state you get the points within 90 days of the July date, so that makes it sounds like the July date is the cut off of the offer, not just of adding it. ALSO, the terms say 1 additional point on top of normal earning. So is it 5 points total (Normal 4 + 1 bonus) or 8 points (normal 4 + 4 bonus)….

I received the offer on a personal plat so it should be 5 total MR per dollar spent (Normal 1 + 4 bonus). If it reads the same on a gold card offer it would be 8 total MR (normal 4 + 4 bonus)

I received this offer on my personal platinum too but no luck on the gold. It is good through 12/31 though, so good for 5x through the end of the year without cutting into the 25k max on the gold card.

Awesome! I got this offer for a change and can confirm when we do a grocery pickup from a Walmart Neighborhood market it gets 4x MR.

Any data points on if it is only available in Walmart Neighborhood groceries, or can it apply to items ordered through grocery.walmart.com, but picked up at another store format? For example, a super walmart store.

I did it at a Walmart Supercenter. As long as it’s paid through the Walmart Grocery app or website, you’re good.

Redeemed a MR offer recently via grocery.walmart.com and picked up items at a walmart supercenter. Just be sure to use the grocery site.

If Walmart is coded as grocery then using Gold Card it would be 16x, right?

Walmart Grocery, specifically meaning the online Walmart Grocery where you can order and pick up with your car?
