  • BBVA is offering a bonus of $50 to existing targeted checking bonuses that receive a qualifying direct deposit of at least $500 by October 15th, 2019

The Fine Print

  • This offer is not combinable with any other bonus offer.
  • At least one electronic deposit of your paycheck, pension or government benefits (such as Social Security) from your employer or the government in the amount of at least $500 must post to the checking account by October 15, 2019.
  • Qualifying electronic Direct Deposits do not include payments received into your account from payment apps such as PayPal, Venmo and other similar payment service providers.
  • The $50 cash bonus will be deposited into the new checking account within 90 days of meeting the bonus requirements described above.
  • Account must be open and in good standing with a balance of $0.00 or more at the time of bonus payment in order to receive the bonus.
  • BBVA may report the value of the bonus to the IRS as required by law.
  • Any client whose tax status would require BBVA to impose tax withholding of any sort will not be eligible for this bonus.
  • All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

Our Verdict

Rare to see deals for existing customers normally, but BBVA seems to send these sorts of offers out semi frequently. Obviously won’t be adding this to our best checking bonus page as it’s only available to targeted existing customers.

  • anyone got the bonus from them?? received the mail from them, did the direct deposit of 501 dollars from payroll. so far nothing. anyone else?

    • Still waiting on the $50 bonus, my 90 days are up on 12/23, but just got the $10 bonus for opening their app during Oct, Nov and Dec. Wasn't expecting it for 90 days from this month so it was a surprise.

      • UPDATE: Had to send them an SM including a copy of the mailer they send me since the 90 days had passed and no bonus. Heard today that the $50 bonus has been approved and will post tomorrow.

    Just a heads up, I have found that you will get hemmed up by the auto-moderation anytime you use more than one link per post.

    • I think the first round of filtering mods are automatic, by the giant machine in the cloud, and then Will and Chuck review the logs when they get home from the daytime job to see if there are any that still need to be approved or dumped. Just guessing.... what do I know about being a webmaster? I am just piecing together my experience here and when I have contacted other wordpress sites.

      • Pretty much this, I've been super busy lately as well so only just approved a lot of comments that have been in spam for the last 4-5 days

  • I closed my BBVA account over six months ago, and I still get these "current account members" promotions - and they still allow me to log into the account and use all functionality (including bill pays and transfers). When I call to verify the account is closed, they tell me it was closed back in Jan.

    They just seem to have a really difficult time breaking up - someone please them them our relationship is over!!!!

  • I happened to check the sign-up link. It is still allowing to open a new checking account for $200 bonus. Wondering if I should take a change as the last date was July 26, 2019. Why would they keep the link ON when the offer has expired?

    Not an easy answer though, cos it requires DD commitment. Any thoughts?

    • No point, offer has expired. Lots of places keep the offer page up even after it has died.

  • I've been targeted for similar BBVA offers and not gotten the bonus. My hunch is they rely on the "not combinable with other offers" language and deny you if you've gotten a bonus from BBVA before.

    • They usually have those terms but not sire how strict they are in following them. For example, I got a $10 bill pay bonus in November 2018 and a $25 mobile bonus in March 2019 and I am pretty sure both had the same 12 month terms listed. I was targeted and I will go for it - if they pay the bonus fine. If not, oh well

  • I see it on the right side in my offers. Why wouldn't they pay out? Changed my DD. Thanks DOC.

    • It is YMMV because I had to fight for an offer. Even had to file a CFPD complaint and then, as a good will gesture, they grudgingly gave it to me. So, I am more likely to pass on these offers from bbva.

  • They never paid out any of those other small bonuses for existing account holders in the past year. I wouldn't trust it

    • I got a $10 billpay bonus and $50 bonus for increasing balance to $100. However I just recently closed to start the clock again, so I'll miss out on this :(

    • I didn't get my BBVA existing account bonus. Denied because I received the signup bonus for getting the account less than a year previously.

    • In my case I got both a $10 bonus for doing 3 bill pays and a $50 bonus for increasing my balance to $100 this past year.

      Guess YMMV on these if you didn't get the bonuses.

      • You got $50 for increasing your balance to $100? That's good. They offered me $10 if I increase my balance to $1000. I am doing it, because I already have an account with them, but I have low expectations of receiving payment without a fight.

        • Reminded me to check this and my "THANK YOU SAVINGS BAL INCREASE CASH BONUS $10" just posted 8 weeks later. However, have yet to receive checking one after 12 weeks. Not targeted this time.

        • Yes, that was a nice easy $50, paid out in less than 3 month so not too bad.

          Will probably do this one and try an ACH as a DD since my real DD will be tied up with another promo for $100. Not a lot of DP's on what works but won't hurt to try a couple.
