The Offer

Direct link to offer (incognito)

  • Chase is offering a checking & savings bonus worth up to $900. Bonus is as follows:
    • Receive a bonus of $300 when you open a Chase Total checking account and have a direct deposit post to the account within 90 days.
    • Receive a bonus of $200 when you open a Chase savings account and deposit $15,000 or more in new money within 30 days and maintain a balance of $15,000 for 90 days.
    • Receive an extra $400 bonus when you complete both of the above bonuses.

The Fine Print

  • Checking offer is not available to existing Chase checking customers. Savings offer is not available to existing Chase savings customers. Both offers are not available to those whose accounts have been closed within 90 days or closed with a negative balance within the last 3 years.
  • You can receive only one new checking and one new savings account opening related bonus every two years from the last coupon enrollment date and only one bonus per account. Coupon is good for one-time use.
  • To receive the checking bonus: 1) Open a new Chase Total Checking account, which is subject to approval; AND 2) Have your direct deposit made to this account within 90 days of coupon enrollment. Your direct deposit needs to be an electronic deposit of your paycheck, pension or government benefits (such as Social Security) from your employer or the government. Person to Person payments (such as Zelle®) are not considered a direct deposit. (Micro-deposits do not qualify as a direct deposit for the bonus. Micro-deposits are small deposits, typically less than $1, that are sent to your account to verify it is the correct account.)
  • After you have completed all the above checking requirements, we’ll deposit the bonus in your new account within 15 days. To receive the savings bonus: 1) Open a new Chase SavingsSM account, which is subject to approval; 2) Deposit a total of $15,000 or more in new money into the new savings account within 30 days of coupon enrollment; AND 3) Maintain at least a $15,000 balance for 90 days from the coupon enrollment. The new money cannot be funds held by you at Chase or its affiliates.
  • After you have completed all the above savings requirements, we’ll deposit the bonus in your new account within 15 days.
  • To receive the extra bonus: You must open the checking and savings account at the same time and complete all requirements above for BOTH the checking bonus and savings bonus. After you have completed all requirements, we will deposit the remaining bonus due in your new account within 15 days.
  • To receive any of the above bonuses, the enrolled account must not be closed or restricted at the time of payout. Eligibility may be limited based on account ownership. The Annual Percentage Yield (APY) for Chase SavingsSM, effective as of 12/29/2022, is 0.01% for all balances in all states. Interest rates are variable and subject to change. Additionally, fees may reduce earnings on the account.
  • Bonuses are considered interest and will be reported on IRS Form 1099-INT (or Form 1042-S, if applicable).

Avoiding Fees

Savings Account

The Chase Savings Account comes with a monthly service fee of $5. Monthly fee is waived with any ONE of the following:

  • Keep a minimum daily balance of $300 or more
  • Have at least one repeating automatic transfer from your Chase checking account of $25 or more; one time transfers do not qualify
  • Have a linked Chase Premier Plus Checking, Chase Premier Platinum Checking, or Chase Private Client Checking account

New accounts will not be charged a Monthly Service Fee for at least the first two statement periods.

Checking Account

The Chase Total Checking account comes with a monthly service fee of $10-$12 which is waived if complete any of the following:

  • Have monthly direct deposits totaling $500 or more
  • Keep a minimum daily balance of $1,500 or more in the checking account
  • Keep an average daily balance of $5,000 or more in any combination of qualifying Chase checking, savings and other balances

New accounts will not be charged a Monthly Service Fee for at least the first two statement periods.

Early Account Termination Fee

There used to be an six-month period where you would lose the bonus if closed out, but sometime in 2022 (?) they removed that clause and so it’s now safe to close after you receive the bonus paid out.

Our Verdict

This is the best public bonus we’ve seen on this account, really excellent offer and much better than the prior $600 offer.

Be sure to have the $15,000 sent directly to the Chase savings account. If you send it to the checking and then transfer it over to the savings, I don’t know if you’ll earn the savings bonuses.

  • Update 11/13/23: Extended through 1/24/24
  • Update 10/6/23: $900 bonus is publicly available again. Valid until 11/16/2023
  • Update 8/2/23: We’re hearing sporadic reports of people who get this offer to show up on the Chase homepage or at this link or this link. Possibly refreshing a bunch of times can help. No such luck for me. Update 8/6/23: now it’s being sent out as a physical mailer as well. (ht doernonemasterall)
  • Update 7/14/23: A bunch of readers report getting this offer again – it was just sent out as a targeted email offer.
  • Update 4/30/23: There are a couple of data points indicating that the $900 promo code will still work beyond the 4/19/23 expiration date. There is no link to generate new codes, but if you already have a code you can applying it and see if the Chase system accepts it. YMMV. (ht Tikky) Update 4/17/23: Reposting as April 19th is the final day to open for those who already generated a code. The offer link is dead and no new codes can be generated. (For those on a tight eligibility timeline: the system should give you an error message if you are not eligible for the bonus.) Update 2/6/23: Link no longer works to get new codes. If you already generated a code it will continue to work until the 4/19/23 expiration. Update 1/13/23: We posted this yesterday as a targeted offer, and there’s now a public link (updated below). Wow! If you’re not ready to open the account now, I’d recommend quickly using the email option to save the offer for later since the link can expire at any time.

  • I forgot to add money for the savings account i was supposed to do it on 11/4 is it to late if I trasnfer the 15k now it will hit my account on 11/13 will chase still give me the bonus? is there a chance i could still get it

    • Almost certainly no... you could ask for an exception, but I highly doubt you would get your way.

  • DP for eBay
10/28/24: Opened accounts online (both checking and savings)
    11/06/24: eBay payout for $32
11/07/24: Tracker updated with the checkmark for the dd
    11/12/24: $300 bonus received

  • Q: In the past I have always kept $1500 in the checking to keep it fee free, and the $15k in savings for the specified period. Is there a better solution then keeping so much cash trapped in the checking?

  • Data point: $50 DD from payroll worked just fine, the $300 was in the account 2-3 days later, and the bonus tracker was correct in 2 days. In my case, easy to set up the payroll side. Relevance: doesn't have to be a big direct deposit (like an entire paycheck, or half a paycheck, or blah blah blah). Just a direct deposit. If you have the flexibility to control your DD directly from the payroll side (not the Chase side), not a bad option.

Separately: Wondering how folks are doing with putting the 15K into savings. I'm seeing chatter about Chase getting weird about ACH in, though tough for me to tell from reading so far if that is uniquely when people try to pull or when people try to push as well. Pull is looking like a tricky if not simply a bad proposition.

    • $15K Push from SalemFive processed fine. To Do Tracker updated within a couple of days.

Push from the same bank does NOT appear to have worked for Checking. To Do Tracker has not updated after a week and that push went in a few days before the savings did.

      Will try Fidelity this week..

      • Fidelity doesn't work as a DD here. You might want to take a moment to ready through some successful DP's. (spoiler alert: Wise, Novo, Treasury Direct, a couple random credit unions, cashing out a gift card sale from Raise.com (now GCX) & business accounts) @guest_1948801

    • If you push the $15K in from your external account(s) to Chase, you shouldn't have any issues.

      • Thank you.

After having even a small test pull fail, I had a clueless CR tell me first that wire transfers into savings were not allowed, and I had to explain to him that an ACH is not a wire transfer -- then he suggested I "just try and see what the system does" -- God no.

And the CR above him told me point blank to deposit a physical check at the bank, despite the offer having no such requirement. That conversation was "fun."

Figuring a push (vs a pull) was the real solution, the interaction with Chase left me reticent about trying to push five figures through an ACH from the source account anyway -- don't exactly want $15,000 disappearing into a Chase process hole. But if folks here have done ACH push without issue into the Chase savings, well, folks here clearly know, unlike CR #1, the difference between a wire transfer and ACH. :)

Very much appreciate the speedy reply and guidance. Thx much.

        • Chase CSRs are knotheads. They can do some boilerplate stuff, but not much in the way of special requests.

I've had better luck setting up an appointment for a phone call. I get a contact email and phone call from a banker at the closest local branch (in my case over 100 miles away). You can really talk to them one on one and get into a meaningful conversation. Mine confirmed the bonus enrollment and upgraded checking in just a few minutes.

Replying to the initial contact email to confirm the appointment, I was able to email a full list of questions so they had the answers before they called me.

        • I can confirm a push from Fidelity CMA worked just fine for me. I set it up with the micro-deposits, then pushed $25 to make sure it was ok, then the rest of the $15k. It was also very fast - the money was in the account a few hours after Fidelity confirmed they had processed it. @guest_1542346

Never pull when you can avoid it, especially with Chase.

          • My Fidelity to new Chase didn't require the micro deposits. It linked automatically once the new routing and account numbers were entered.

Maybe because I had an old account linked at one point?

          • Some of the EWS banks work like that. They can "see" you own the account using that report. @guest_1948803

  • Running out of time, and having issues funding the savings account, I did the unthinkable last week - tried to use Chase to pull funds in. But they did not lock the account this time. The transfer appeared to be fine......, until the the next day when canceled it. "They could not communicate with the external bank" Huh? ...I ended up doing a Wire Transfer from another bank. $900 promo becomes $860 now :)

  • Question for those who got the bonus.
I did the 15K savings, that cheks out, but for Checking,I did Fidelity cma push ($100), I don't think there's a minimum for checking anyways. Nothing happend.
So today I initiated ACH payment from chase business (as oppose to Real Time as it uses clearing house and probaby won't qualify)?.

I will update but just wanted to know if anyone tried Real Time chase payment and it worked?

  • Make sure you're checking account doesn't accidentally close... I recieved the Checking account bonus and then transferred the money out while I let the $15,000 stay in the savings account. Received $200 in my savings, which triggered the $400 extra bonus but my checking account closed after 60 days of inactivity so the $400 extra got bounced back and now Chase is not going to give me the money back...

    • Ouch. That's a tough lesson. Always leave money in an account that you want to keep. Wells Fargo used to auto-close after just two weeks. Chase is probably like a month? @guest_1947071

  • How accurate and current is the bonus tracker here? ACH pushed funds into the checking account a few days ago. Tracker says it may take 'up to two days'. It's been about 4 days now and it hasn't moved.

Did my push fail? Do I need to try another one?

  • Data Point - no issues.
    Opened July 28, 2024
Aug 16th first DD posted (true work deposit, just sent partial of paycheck; $359.21
    Aug 19th deposited $15,000
Aug 27 $300 Checking bonus posted
    Nov 5th, 2024 $200 Savings acct bonus
Nov 5th, 2024 Paid $400  for completing both bonuses
    Total $900 bonus money,
    *I did lose 5% interest on $15,000 for almost 4 months = $250 “lost”
So actual profit after deducting lost interest 900-250= $650 profit

    • Lost almost 4 months interest? Aug 19 to Nov 5th is just 78 days... As of 11/9 it's only been 82 days. You got your Save bonus early and lost less interest on the $15K than you thought...

  • Can someone explain this: You can receive only one new checking and one new savings account opening related bonus every two years from the last coupon enrollment date and only one bonus per account. Coupon is good for one-time use. It looks like, I opened checking+savings in 9/2022 and closed in 6/2023. Am I eligible now? So they are calculating 2 years from the account opening date (coupon enrollment date) and not the bonus posted date, correct ? thanks.
