Our Verdict

Reader David got this offer via email, presumably this was sent out to others as well as a targeted offer. The public offer is for 50,000 points with annual fee waived the first year. Sometime before end of March, the public offer will be changed to 60,000 points with annual fee NOT waived the first year, according to this rumor.

  • I am currently 3/24, so I figured I'd use Chase.com looking for card offers. I already have an Amazon Prime & Slate card.

I skimmed the comments and did not see the offer I just received:

70,000 points with fee - $825 redeemed on travel @ chase site

I have been less than impressed at the redemption program values when I have bothered to research them (merchandise 'price' seems inflated, offsetting the value of my points). Is the Chase redemption program fairly valued? How decent are the values when redeeming for travel options?

I do not currently 'travel' much, so I generally skip over travel cards, and tend to get cash back cards.

I'm fairly new to the churn/ manufacture systems, but I'm not completely noob about it, so please give some specifics about any suggestions offered.

Is there a Chase travel card that can be used creatively to make it worth while, or should I stick with cash back type cards?

  • I got an offer in my chase app saying "You're already approved. Get Chase Sapphire Preferred" with $7000 credit limit and 50,000 points, and it let me choose "Accept" or not. Does that mean it won't do a hard pull any more?

    • Every single credit card application (with the sole exception of some AmEx offers for existing clients) results in a hard pull.

  • Can you upgrade a Chase Freedom (Unlimited) to a Sapphire Preferred Card?
(obv. not to receive the bonus, but rather for the general perks)

  • If I had the Reserve and got the 100k (over 2 years ago), product changed to the Freedom, would I now be eligible for the 60k offer? I guess what I'm asking is does the new 48 month language affect me or is that moving forward once I get this card if approved? Thanks all

    • The language affects you - you are not eligible for another couple years even though you product changed.

  • I have a similar offer on my login but it's only for the 50k offer. It says I'm "prequalified". This is the first time I've ever had an offer like this come up. Does Chase match? Should I wait a few days and see if the 60k comes up? I've never had UR card with transferrable points so this is super attractive to me now I'm under 5/24 again.

      • There's no way I'd qualify for CSR, income is very low, never had a card anywhere near 10k limit, and I already have couple cards with Chase (in total less than $10k between 3)

    • BTW I was just recently approved for the united biz card...I wonder if that's what made this offer appear. I have the UF and IHG cards, both 2+ yrs old.

  • Also know someone who got this offer checking via the Chase app, in their offers. Helpful if folks can't find the email

  • I got the CSR almost 2 years ago. I don't qualify for bonus here since I hold a card from Reserve family correct?

    • Will forever be mourning those 100k CSR offers from a few years back. My local Chase says it's unlikely the bonus will ever raise, since they're actually losing money on the card.

      • I got both 100K CSR and 50K CSP while it was possible. I'm keep looking to cherish my joy over it and bring in some pain for the unfortunate folks. I have the Ritz Carlton Card as well which is a money machine for air travel. My sincere apologies for doing so.

      • I think that was the offer I got back then but it's funny I was oblivious to all the churning and MS and points life. Me and P2 got 200k bonus points plus all the extra with organic spending and that almost fully funded a Euro trip for us for 2.5 weeks.

  • Chuck, please include the subject lines of these emails in future posts, it makes it very difficult to search for in one's inbox if you don't have the exact wording of the subject line.

    • We usually include the subject line if we have it. If you see a post without the subject line included it's generally because we don't know it

    • I'll keep in mind for the future. In this case, I don't actually know the subject line.
