Update 5/31/22: Offer going out again now at this link, expires 5/31/22 (ht LionSuneater)

The Offer

Direct link to offer (need to have received a targeted mailer or e-mail)

  • Chase is offering United cardholders 2,500 bonus miles when they add an authorized user

The Fine Print

  • To be eligible for this bonus offer, you must log on to the website referenced in this offer and enroll by the date referenced in the email or mailer.
  • You will qualify and receive your bonus if you then add an authorized user to your United Explorer Card by the date referenced in the email or mailer by calling the Chase number on the back of your credit card.
  • Please allow 6–8 weeks after completed qualifying activity for miles to post to your account.
  • Miles will post directly to the Primary Cardmember’s MileagePlus Account and will not appear on the Primary Cardmember’s credit card statement.

Our Verdict

Being added as an authorized user does affect your 5/24 status, so worth keeping that in mind. Chase used to offer authorized user bonuses as part of the card opening bonuses but we don’t see them anymore.

  • Just got this offer in the mail, in October 2022. Says the offer ends Oct. 31.

Is there a minimum age for authorized users?

Also, does the offer require adding authorized user by calling, or can the authorized user be added via web and still qualify for the offer?

    • is there a link to this offer? or is it just a generic instruction to add an authorized user and get 2500 miles?

  • Anyone know how long it takes for the points to post once you complete this promotion?

  • Friendly heads up. Currently the United MileagePlus explorer card bonus is 40,000 with 2k spend. The inflight offer they've promoted on their flights recently however, is for 50k miles plus 2500 miles with total 5k spend. Details on site.

    Promotional Code: UA3478

Thought this would be useful for anyone who might be considering applying for the card soon since the promotion probably wont increase or change for a few months.

    Hope it helps!

  • So if I got an AU card for my girlfriend and then just never gave it to her, I'd still get the 2,500 miles, right?

I'm asking because I'd have to see if she'd be comfortable with giving all the information to get this AU card to appear on her credit report, but if she is, I know her credit isn't great, so listing her as an AU without ever actually giving her the card seems like a pretty risk-free way to help her out.

    • You don't even have to give a SSN for the AU on her. Caution though - if you're a heavy spender, it'll show as utilization at the end of the month even if balance is paid in full...meaning if she's got a low total revolving credit line (between this and all other cards), it'll ding her ever so slightly.
