  • Citi is offering some American Airlines cardholders a bonus of 10,000 American Airline miles when they sign up for a Citi Accelerate savings account that earns 2.36% APY. To receive the bonus the following requirements must be met:
    • Have or download the Citi mobile app for iPhone
    • Access the Citi Accelerate Savings account in the Citi Mobile App for iPhone by logging in at least two times within 30 days of account opening

The Fine Print

  • Must open an account by April 30th, 2019.

Our Verdict

We’ve talked about the Citi Accelerate savings account before and it’s actually one of the better high yield savings accounts currently available. Obviously it’s even better if you get a 10,000 mile bonus and in my opinion worth opening in that case. It is weird that you can only really do this bonus if you have an iPhone though.

  • I got this email the other day, the offer has been extended until 7/31/19.

    What are the “Required Activities” for this Offer?
    First, Eligible customers must open an Eligible Citi Accelerate Savings account and enroll in this offer. The “Eligible Citi Accelerate Savings account” is an account which is 1) opened during the “Offer Period” of June 6, 2019 to July 31, 2019, 2) and is opened through the dedicated account opening opportunity by clicking on the email link in the Communication, or is opened by calling 1-866-524-8635.

    Note: If Eligible Customers open a Citi Accelerate Savings account through any other way other than specified above, they will not have fulfilled the requirements of this offer.

    Second, within (30) days of opening the new Eligible Citi Accelerate Savings account, Eligible Customers must fund the account with a total of $25,000 and maintain that balance for 60 days.

    Note: At the time the AAdvantage® bonus miles are to be credited to your AAdvantage® account, your Citi® / AAdvantage® credit card account, AAdvantage account, and the new Eligible Citi Accelerate Savings account must both be open and in good standing. Citi Accelerate Savings accounts which have a zero balance for ninety (90) days are subject to closure.

  • I did this offer. Citi is not honoring it saying that the “actual” offer is if you open a checking account and spend $200

  • Finally got the link to work and the account open today. Funded it with the $25 minimum. Already have the account number and looked at it on the app. Here's hoping the 10,000 miles post soon!

  • I was targeted and I would like to do this, but clicking the link in the email just results in a blank page (after logging in), or sometimes a 404 or 502 error. No dice for me.

    • I think the link is working now, give it another go if you're still wanting to do it. Mine wasn't working until just a couple days ago.

  • I would HIGHLY advise AGAINST doing this. Citi has nothing but errors showing up on their web pages, I have NOT been able to fund the account from the mobile app (100% correct routing number and account number of my local bank, it worked fine to fund a Marcus account the other day) and when I can get the page to load on a desktop there is NO fund button. There are transfer buttons but that only transfers between your credit card and savings account (using a cash advance). Otherwise it PAYS YOUR CREDIT CARD from your bank account, NOT funding the savings account. Further, you can NOT cancel an account online or via chat, you MUST call 800-745-1534, Option 2. They are only open M-F from 8am to 5pm CT. The original post should be updated to note how frustrating Citi's web site is for some users (read all the comments, I'm not the only one with issues with pages not loading) and to note how hard it is to cancel an account with them. I've had a Citi credit card for 10+ years and the app has always worked fine for me, however their banking system must seriously be screwed up. Stay away from this.

    • I was actually the one to submit the deal to the blog and it was able to work for me just fine. Didn't have any problems setting up the account, but Citi could not confirm if I met all the requirements because it was an internet offer so I would just have to wait for the bonus to post. I would try updating your app or using another phone.

      • It’s been 6+ weeks and I never got the bonus offer. Citi is useless unless I can provide them with an offer code, which this doesn’t have...

    • I am wondering the same thing. But the previous checking account post stated ◾Not eligible if you’ve been an owner of a Citibank checking or savings account within the last 180 calendar days. So I think you may not able to do both? https://www.doctorofcredit.com/author/will/

      Also wondering if this account can waive the monthly fee of checking account. When you apply the checking account bonus you need to open both checking and saving account. So with accelerate saving you can open two saving account at the same time?

  • Has anyone been able to get this to work?? I was hit with a page not found error most of yesterday... then finally last night it worked, but after you pick where you live and enter your SS# and try to move to step two it just keeps trying to load the application for like 20+ minutes... if you open the link from the email again it’s a page not found error...

    I wouldn’t mind doing this since I was about to sign up with Marcus for a high yield savings account since I already have a loan with them and it’s less information to put it again and only one site to go to... but I’ll totally do Citi if it actually works...

    • I got it to work on my phone's browser. Like you, I had trouble completing the application on desktop. But on my phone, it worked fine. I took screenshots just in case.

      • This was actually from my phone... the application just kept saying "loading application"... I tried with Safari mobile and Firefox mobile on my iphone...

  • If I do this bonus, will I still be eligible for the checking account bonuses?

    • Doesn't seem to be anything in the terms that exclude you from getting them

      • Might want to update the post to say that Chrome on iPhone might not trigger the bonus. Citi chat wasn't able to find any bonus attached to my account sign up, even though I got the email and used the link from the email with the Chrome browser on my iphone. The link won't work for myself and it seems others with Safari on iPhone....

  • Hopefully I get this email! I’ve only had the credit cards so I should be eligible.
