[Targeted] Citi American Airlines, NO 24 Month Language & Why To Care Even If You’re Not Targeted

The Offer

Targeted mail offer

  • Citi / AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite MasterCard is offering 60,000 miles after $3,000 in spend within the first three months.

Card Details

  • Annual fee of $95 is waived the first year
  • Does not contain 24 month language

Our Verdict

Obviously this is a great offer if you were targeted, but it actually doesn’t really matter if you were or not. Because what you can do is sign up for the 50,000 mile link with no 24 month language and then request a match to this 60,000 offer. The reason that this mail offer is significant is that it means that matching will continue to work, great news!

  • Hello, My spouse got mailer with both 9 and 12 digit code. I would like to use the code as i would like to keep my spouse under 5/24. We have different last name. I think I could use only one of these code either 9 digit or 12 digit. For the other one, Citi will reject the application right away. I'm not sure which is the right way to go. I'd appreciate input from churners. Thanks.

  • Quick DP: Used a 9 digit mailer mailed to my wife today, exactly 60 days from my last AA plat and also 5 days after the mailer expired. App went pending so I called the Citi app status line, and they just wanted to see if I wanted to shift some credit for a higher CL. Was able to open my 5th AA Plat in about 16 months.

  • Tried with both my recent Person and my Business.
Personal: Didn't see an SM option- only Chat. Chat person said I had to call. Called, and got the 10K.
Business: Sent an SM. Will see what happens.

  • Sent a SM and got 10k points added to my account. Thanks for the 'why you should care heading' that got me to read this and request my 10k extra bonus. You da man!

  • If you are still working on the AA 50K no 24 month language card spending requirement, and DID NOT receive a mailer for the 60K offer, can you still call to get upgraded to the 60K offer???

  • Just to be clear, if I have opened or closed a Citi AA card in the last 12 months, I'll be able to receive the bonus on this card since the 24 month language is gone? Assuming of course that I can make the minimum spend. Thanks.

  • Question: I unfortunately applied for the 50k offer WITH 24mo language. Would applying later without he language allow me to get the bonus again? ANd will they match the 60k for me on the 50k + language offer I got?

    • Yes applying without the language later would work. They should match to 60k for the offer you got, but if you're not eligible under the 24 month rule it won't work.

  • I received two Citi mailers on the same day (2/10): one for the 60,000 after $3,000 spend in 90 days with annual fee waived at regular interest rate. The other was for 50,000 after $3,000 spend in 90 days, with an additional 10,000 after a total of $5,000 spend in first year, with a 0% interest rate for 14 cycles. I do tend to gravitate towards no interest initial deals, I wonder if they are aware of that? Either way, found it funny I got both on the same day.

      • I saw the identical offer as you in the mail and assumed the 50K/$3K spend + 10K/addl $2K spend was being widely misinterpreted as a 60K/$3K signup offer. But the offer at the top of this page clearly shows an "easier" 60K offer which is probably why the 10K requested match from 50 is so easily granted.

  • Question for those in the know.

I got a 60k home mailer, applied and was approved on 1/8/17. I'm working on min spend now. Just got another 60k home mailer for same exact card in yesterday's mail. Is it stupid to apply again? I have zero experience with citi rewards cards. Had a few citi cards that weren't travel rewards cards back several years ago but closed all them down. This new advantage is my only open citi at the moment. Should I try this or just disregard? Invitation numbers are different.

  • I got this 60,000 point offer mailer but on a Business Card. I recently signed up for the 50,000 point personal card. I'm going to ask them to match the 60,000 personal point offer and then see if I can also get the business card 60,000 point offer as well.
