Monthly Fees

The easiest account to keep fee free is the CitiBusiness®Streamlined Checking Account, this has a monthly fee of $15 and is waived have an average monthly balance of $5,000 or more.

Early Account Termination Fee

There is no early account termination fee to worry about.

Our Verdict

We saw a similar offer but for American Airline miles recently, but this cash offer is much better. Fingers crossed this means we will see a publicly accessible Citi business checking bonus soon. I do think this bonus is worth doing, but I wouldn’t bother trying to do the extra cash management bonuses.

  • Citi Business Checking Cash offer was available when I walked in with a flyer for the AA miles offer. It seemed to be available to anyone who asked and was not restricted/targeted. However, Citi banker needed me to have paperwork even for Sole Prop account opening even though Virginia does not need DBA certificate or EIN for Sole Props.

Will re-try in another branch when I know this offer has been renewed.

  • Not technically targeted. I brought in a mailer not addressed to me, the banker found the code in her system, set me up, also printed out a confirmation of the promo for my records.

  • I received a snail mail invitation. I am currently doing the $700 promotion – I have a real business and they checked my Florida corporate registration.

One thing should be clarified in the post, however. It’s not strictly accurate to say that the balance needs to be maintained for 60 days. The terms of the promotion state that “after the initial 30 calendar days from account opening, maintain a balance of $______ or more in your new business checking account for 60 consecutive days.” In another words, the 60-day clock starts running 30 days after account opening, not on the day the funds are deposited.

Also note that the terms say that they will pay the bonus “within 90 days from the end of the month in which you complete all offer requirements.” Therefore, it’s better to open the account toward the end of a month rather than at the beginning.

  • How can you check if you're targeted?
Did you have to receive a specific email (if so, what was the headline?) or is it somewhere within the Citi online banking page (similar to BOA)?

  • Curious how easy it is to open a Citi business checking account? Chase doesn't require any business documents for sole proprietors, for example. Wonder if Citi is as lenient

  • what is the additional requirement listed in this post? Deposit $50,000 and enroll in cash management services or deposit $200,000?

      • I rec'd mailer 10/12. looks like the similar deal, but
        $700 for 50G, $400 for 15G. (fine print only: $1500 for 200G).
        2 month minimum.
