[YMMV] Free $20 Costco Cash Card by Enrolling in Auto-Renewal

Reposting 5/29/18: A couple of reports indicate that anyone can get this $20 deal by calling in (800-774-2678), asking the agent for this offer, and enrolling on the phone in auto-renew. (1, 2)

The Offer

Costco is sending out an offer to some members via snail mail:

  • Signup for auto-renewal on your Costco membership and get a free $20 Costco Cash card.

The Fine Print

  • Enroll your account by June 30, 2018. April 30th, 2019
  • Offer valid for new auto renewal enrollments only.
  • After setting up auto renewal on any visa card, a Costco $20 cash card will be sent to you by mail in 4-6 weeks after June 30, 2018.
  • Enroll online, at store, or by calling 1-800-774-2678.

Our Verdict

Interesting to see them send out an offer like this. Might be worth keeping off auto-renew in the future with the hopes of being eligible for a similar offer.

  • Can confirm this works for those calling in. I tried chatting with Costco earlier before calling them, to no avail.

    This morning around 8.30am: disabled Auto Renew on my Account.

    Today around 2pm: called in and signed up for Auto Renew and asked for $20 Cash Card. Request was completed successfully and was told I'd get the Physical Cash Card in the mail in 4-6 weeks.

    • I called in today to try it out.
      I had previously disabled Auto Renew several months ago.

      I called in and mentioned I had "heard about the promotion from a friend".
      The rep initially said it was targeted, but she checked on it.

      Came back and said they would "honor the promotion".

        I received my Gift Card 1-2 weeks ago. So it took them only about 2 weeks at most to mail out the GC (as opposed to what they told me - 4 to 6 weeks)

  • fwiw , if you have a Citi Costco card, they will try to make that the auto bill pay option.

    for those with the USB AR , i think its better to just pay in store via NFC / mobile pay

    • My Citi Costco Visa Anywhere card was set up, by default, as the auto-renewal option. But, after reading this post, I logged into my Costco account online, unchecked auto-renewal, phoned the telephone number above, and was asked by the rep what Visa card I wanted to use for auto-renewal. I told her the Costco Visa Anywhere card, and then she told me to expect the $20 Costco cash card in the mail after 6-8 weeks.

  • Got the mailer. Couldn't do it online. Called in and the agent said my account was set up for auto renewal already, so go gift card for me :(

  • Got the mailer yesterday, but when I tried to enroll, the website didn't save any credit card info. Anyone else experiencing this error?
