[Expired] [Targeted MN, MI, IL, WI, CO, AZ & SD] TCF Bank $250 Checking Bonus – Direct Deposit Optional

Deal has expired, view more bank account bonuses by clicking here

Update 9/1/19: more people have been targeted. New end date of September 17th, 2019. Hat tip to reader Joe

Update 3/31/19: More mailers have gone out, there is even an online link but keep in mind it’s targeted and this has been enforced (at least in branch before). I assume it’s actually enforced online as well. Hat tip to readers Guillaume C & Brandon B

Update 1/5/2019: Mailers have gone out again, seems like it’s now available in AZ as well. Hat tip to readers JR & Matthew R

This account has no monthly fees to worry about. There is a $3 fee if you receive paper statements. According to this fee schedule there is no early account termination fee.

Our Verdict

Last time these were sent out it was possible to get the deal by calling in even if you didn’t have a mailer. This was then shut down, I suspect you will need to bring the physical mailer in to get this deal but if anybody tries calling in or going in without a mailer let us know in the comments below.

Big thanks to reader, Norm who let us know. Learn how to find bonuses and contribute to the site here.

  • Got the bonus few months ago.. Is there a minimum period to keep account open to not lose the bonus or Can I close the account now without any penalty?

  • I have done this bonus twice; earlier this year and a few years ago. This time it went well, but the first time it was a disaster. This is not a very consistent bank, try to find a banker who is not brain dead and not brand new to the job. YMMV

  • Just received a flyer for my local branch here in CO, expiration date is now SEPTEMBER 17, 2019. Bonus is only $200, all other language is consistent.

    • Flyer indicates that you can call in to setup an account. After validating my name & address via the phone, the agent instructed me to set one the account online and then would apply the promo code to my account (I made her stay on the phone while I setup the account). Agent was very friendly and helpful.
Total time to setup acct from start to finish (including getting to the right agent) - 15 min.

Will follow up RE actual receipt of bonus and timing.

8.27.19 Opened acct with $50 ACH
        9.6.19 Payroll DD of $525
        9.9.19 $200 Bonus paid out
Fastest bank I've dealt with RE bonus payout.

  • Opened mine up 6/15/19 in branch, $ 250 bill pay sent out 6/24, $300 bonus posted 6/26. One of the simple, quickest and easiest bonus I have ever done.

    • Opened account in my spouse name (eventhough mailer in my name).. Below is the timeline,
      Opened on 6/10 in Branch
Bill Pay on 6/13 for $250 (did 3 days for opening deposit to reflect)
      Bonus posted on 6/14

  • Still did not receive the bonus after 2 months. The branch manager is dodgy as phuck.

Was thinking about getting a new mortgage through them. Now I am going to close the account for good.

  • Is the correct approach to close a TCF account without incurring a fee to zero out the balance with a ACH pull from another bank then call to officially close the account once that is complete? I didn't see it on the "complete list of ways to close bank accounts at each bank" post.
