Deal has expired, view more bank account bonuses by clicking here.

Update 1/3/2020: Another round has gone out and valid until  February 24, 2020. I suspect they will require the mailer to be brought in sadly.

Offer at a glance

  • Maximum bonus amount: $300
  • Availability: MN, MI, IL, WI, CO & SD. In branch or via phone [branch locations]
  • Direct deposit required: Optional
  • Additional requirements: See below
  • Hard/soft pull: Soft pull
  • ChexSystems: Unknown
  • Credit card funding: Up to $1,000 Visa & Mastercard only (not allowed in branch but can be done via phone. They might just allow $100 via phone but when they send you the details via e-mail you should be able to fund $1,000)
  • Monthly fees: $15, avoidable
  • Early account termination fee: None
  • Household limit: One
  • Expiration date: October 8th, 2018

The Offer

No direct link, requires a targeted mailer

  • TCF Bank is offering a bonus of $300 when you complete the following requirements:
    • Bring mailer in
    • Open a TCF Premier Checking account
    • Do one of the following within 60 days of account opening :
      • Receive direct deposits totaling $500 or more
      • Enroll in TCF digital banking and make $250 in online bill payments within 60 days of account opening

The Fine Print

  • MN, MI, IL, WI, CO & SD only.
  • Bonus will post to your account the business day following the criteria verification
  • One offer per household
  • Not eligible to current TCF customers or those who have closed an account in the last 12 months.
  • All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

Avoiding Fees

This account has a $15 monthly fee, this is waived if you have a balance of $2,500+. There is a $2 fee if you receive paper statements. According to this fee schedule there is no early account termination fee.

Our Verdict

Sadly last time they offered a similar bonus they actually required you to bring in the mailer. Previous times it has been possible to just call in and request it but unfortunately it seems like those days are now over. Previous deals only required the free checking account, this requires the premier checking account. Big thanks to all the readers who sent this in.

  • Does anybody have a flyer that has not expired? If so, I would be willing to pay for one (assuming this offer is available out of state). Thanks!

  • Anybody have any tips for how I can get my name and address in their system so I can get targeted? I live in the footprint but have never received a mailer for this.

  • I discovered this site because I received a TCF mailer(Mine was $250) and did a google search to see if I could just get the bonus and then close the account.

1/10 opened account in branch with $40 cash
1/16 deposited 250 in cash at an atm
    1/17 bill pay for $260
    1/22 bonus posted

I can’t believe it was that easy! Probably could have gotten it quicker if my main bank didn’t accidentally pull money from the TCF account instead of ACH depositing into it.

All is well! I appreciate how thorough this site is, and I’m excited to start racking up these bank bonuses! I received a mailer from Wintrust bank right after this and opened an account with them too

  • Just pulled 3 extra mailers from my apartment complex trash.

  • This is an old post, but they are still periodically mailing out the flyers so on the off chance you get one please note they are extremely aggressive with fees. We made a small initial deposit and immediately set up a transfer in for enough to cover the minimum balance requirement plus some cushion. which the banker told us was fine. This settled less than a week after opening the account. Two weeks later, $15 monthly fee and no apparent way to protest without calling in or talking to someone in a branch. I'm sure they'll waive it if we complain, but so annoying. Most other banks will waive fees for a month or two. We will be closing ASAP after the bonus posts.
