  • Not sure where best to post this, but here is a DP on credit card funding of accounts at PenFed. I am a current customer and tried to open a new savings account, but CC funding was only allowed up to $50, not $500. Also started an application to open a CD, and no CC funding was available. So the $500 funding option appears to be discontinued.

  • I will say that I was ok with Penfed until this last month when I have had terrible customer service that would require a couple of paragraphs to describe. Needless to say I opened their premium online account that had a very good interest rate and transferred a lot of money into it. I am so pissed off with my treatment, I am pulling out those thousands of dollars I put in and ultimately getting out of that credit union. One rep that I mentioned some of problems said that they hired a lot of new reps and apparently did not train them and a lot of them are working at home. Great security system ~~~ Not.

  • I never get any offers on my Power Cash Rewards card. I know most don’t like PenFed, but I have no complaints. It’s my go-to 2% card.

  • There's some (limited) benefit to this, particularly if you don't have a business credit card that offers enhanced rewards on these categories. This might have some benefit to allow those who are thinking about redemption thresholds, since these purchases to "top off" a rewards balance would be earning (4x.~67) rather than simply (1x~.67).
Folks should be advised though that some utilities will charge 3-3.5% as a convenience fee to process a credit card.

    • I agree with you. Additionally US Bank Cash+ has utilities as a category. No business card needed. Straight cash back.

+1 for Arcadia power. You can do their 50% wind plan for no additional cost and use a CC to pay your monthly bill without surcharges.

    • if you have electric utility that charges for credit card, look into arcadia power. you pay them with a credit card and they pay your electric bill. its all the same cost, nothing changes, just allows you to pay with a credit card for free

    • More like .85 cent each, in my experience, at least for gift card redemptions. 4x = 3.4%
