The Offer
No direct link to offer, sent out via e-mail. Subject line is ‘<name>, earn $20 cash back’
- U.S. Bank is offering some cardholders a $20 bonus when they add an authorized user by November 15th, 2019
The Fine Print
- No spend requirement
- Must add authorized user by November 15th, 2019
Our Verdict
I’m actually not sure if U.S. Bank reports non spousal authorized users to credit bureaus or not. That’s really only important for people still worrying about their 5/24 status. Offer is great for everybody else as there is no minimum spend requirement, just have to add an authorized user and that’s it.

DP:
10/18/2024 - targeted email received
10/18/2024 - authorized user added
12/04/2024 - $25 credit received
This one is back and looks like targeted again. I didn't get this one, but P2 did. @will @chucksithe
Is there generally any harm in adding an AU to get the bonus, and then removing them after? I.e., if my potential AU would be over 5/24 for the next six months, can I add them, get the bonus, and remove them?
Looks like another round went out. Got it via email for my Altitude Reserve. Ends 8/15.

Would adding a spouse as an authorized user really mean the card won't show up on their credit report?
How would they know? Would the SSN tell them this info?
Yes, sir. Reports to my better half. Both cards.
Thank you. I guess this part of the article isn't true then : "I’m actually not sure if U.S. Bank reports non spousal authorized users to credit bureaus or not. That’s really only important for people still worrying about their 5/24 status."
I was confused because that seems to imply that spouses wouldn't be reported.
Got an equivalent offer on the Altitude Reserve for 2,000 points, also through 6/15/21. Email subject "Michael, earn 2,000 bonus points!'
IIRC it seems like USB dropped the $75 fee for AUs on the AR - my memory is not what it was.
I was thinking about adding my teen - but then recalled the fee
@guest_1191646 You're remembering correctly! DoC posted about it awhile back, so seems like adding the teen would be pretty free for you: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/targeted-u-s-bank-add-an-authorized-user-get-a-20-bonus/#comment-1191745
I got this offer for my Discover Card (I know it's not U.S. bank, but didn't see a dedicated thread for Discover).
Get $25 Cashback Bonus® after you add an Authorized User and make a purchase by 6/18/2021. Only purchases made after the Authorized User is added will count towards the offer. Offer is limited to one Authorized User Cashback Bonus promotion per account. Once promotion details are met, cash back will be credited to your account within three billing cycles.
Got it.
Not worth it for me.
@chucksithe
I can confirm they do report non-spousal AUs to the credit bureaus.
Is it one per bonus per card or can you add multiple AU's?
