The Offer
Targeted offer, sent out via snail mail
- U.S. Bank is offering some Cash+ 20% more cash back (up to $20) on net purchases after you spend $350 in net purchases during the entire promotion period. Promotion period runes from November 1st until December 31st, 2018. Before you get to excited, it’s a 20% bonus on the standard 1% rate you earn making it 1.2% cash back. 2% categories and 5% categories will earn 2.2% or 5.2%
Our Verdict
They have offered the bonus in previous years, but it didn’t apply to the 2% or 5% categories. At least this year it does, even it’s only an extra 0.2%.

Hmm.. I got this in the mail but I'm not sure what I did with it since I didn't think it applied to the 5% categories. I wonder if there's any way to activate it if I don't have the letter?
Received the same offer but they want me to spend $400.
This is the ONLY card giving you 5% cash back for Home Utilities. Love it.
Especially in combination with Arcadia Power (https://www.doctorofcredit.com/arcadia-power-pay-your-electric-bill-with-credit-card-for-no-fee-available-nationwide/), which lets you pay your electric/gas bill with a credit card with no fees and counts toward the 5% Home Utilities category of the Cash+ card!
Poorly worded title. Only 20% on 1% categories. NOBODY should be using this card for 1% categories. Really not even for 2% categories, in most cases.
No, it's +20% more on the base points in all categories, read the letter. The 2% category becomes 2.2% and the 5% becomes 5.2%.
This doesn't seem like it's even worth their effort for the programming and to send out mailers for an extra .2%. Who is that going to convince to start using their card again?
Those who are still paying off the balance from last Christmas.
Some of the categories are not found anywhere else. Especially home utilities. I'd just recently applied for this card (pre-5/24 but I don't qualify for chase anymore) just for the 5% categories on home utility. That is $180 per year cashback for me.
Oh I'm not saying the card doesn't have value. I'm saying that if I'm not already using the card for categories, an extra .2% isn't going to push me over the edge to start using it. Especially if I have to spend $350 just to activate the offer.
@will can you do an update on how to get us bank cards , including “you’ve earned it”, gold account and checking bonus? Thanks 😘
Best to just wait for a checking bonus to come along and then jump on that
Fill out the application(s) of the account(s) that you want. USBank usually offer a $200 checking bonus during the summer.
what i meant was, which are the easiest/most worthwhile since i cant get US bank cards without having some sort of account....
I wasn't targeted - I use my Cash+ card pretty frequently for the 5% categories, which might be why I didn't get this offer. Thanks for the heads up, though!
Pretty surprised that passed compliance. Sure there is a disclaimer and the sentence after saying 20% it’s on the 1% but extra 20% back on net purchases would imply 20% more than what you usually get
well it doesnt really matter cuz its not unlimited. $20 max is clearly noted no matter how you calculus arithmetic geometry.
