- Chase is offering some Southwest Plus cardholders 5,000 points bonus when upgrading their card to the Southwest Priority.
Keep in mind, the Priority card comes with $149 annual fee.
Our Verdict
Interesting to see an upgrade offer from Chase, let’s hope that continues.

Does taking an upgrade bonus offer mean you reset the 24 month clock to get a new sign up bonus for another southwest card later? Or does an upgrade not count agains that, and you would just have to cancel the priority card prior to signing up for a new SW card?

My annual fee just posted. Does anyone know how that works if I upgrade?
Your current annual fee will be refunded and back dated to the day when it was charged. The upgrade will take effect overnight. About two months later the new higher annul fee will post

Not much of a deal
I was targeted for this upgrade, but don't see anything about it counting as an inquiry, and it's unclear if I can upgrade, get the bonus, and then cancel before the higher fee goes into place. Appreciate any insight.
Has anyone received a "retention / upgrade" offer for a Southwest card?
I just cancelled my Priority card the other day. I wasn't offered anything.
Data Point : Jan 2022, Southwest priority cancellation, no retention offered.
Yup I called in to cancel and they gave me $70 credit. This was about a week ago.
