Update 7/4/24: Two new tiers: $500k gets $4,000 bonus and $1M gets $5,000 bonus. New code is MYNEWBONUS.
Update 5/11/23: There is a new $3,000 tier. New code NEWBONUS23. Hat tip to anita
The Offer
- Tastytrade (previously called Tastyworks) is offering a bonus of up to $2,000 when you open a new non-IRA Tastyworks account with promo code
NEWBONUS23MYNEWBONUS. Bonus you receive depends on how much you fund:- Fund $5,000 and get a bonus $100
- Fund $25,000 and get a bonus $500
- Fund $100,000 and get a bonus $2,000
- Fund $250,000 and get a bonus $3,000
The Fine Print
- The Promotion is available to (1) all approved new customers (as determined by Tax ID) who fund their tastyworks account with $5,000 USD or more, and (2) existing customers who have never funded any tastyworks account prior to the start of the Promotional Period, and who fund their existing brokerage account with $5,000 USD or more (each, a “Qualified Account”). All approved new customers and existing customers must be legal U.S. residents and ages 18+ as of the date of participation. In order to be eligible for this Promotion, approved new customers must include the Referral Code of
“TIERED_2022”“MYNEWBONUS” in the REFERRAL CODE FIELD when applying for an account, and existing customers must receive an email from Sponsor confirming they are eligible to participate in the Promotion (upon approved new customers entering the Referral Code, or existing customers funding any current account after receiving an email confirmation of eligibility, approved new customers and existing customers shall be referred to herein as a “Qualified Customer.”) The Promotion is not valid for customers who have any existing, funded tastyworks brokerage account prior to the start of the Promotional Period. IRA and TRUST accounts are not eligible for the Promotion. Only Qualified Customers with Qualified Accounts are eligible for the Cash Bonus. Employees of Sponsor and its affiliates, subsidiaries, divisions, fulfillment and advertising and promotion agencies, their immediate family members (spouse, parent, child, sibling, and their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside), and those living in the same household of each such individual, whether or not related, are not eligible. - The Promotion is not open to persons who reside in any jurisdiction where tastyworks is not authorized to do business, where its products and services would be contrary to the laws, rules, and regulations governing the securities industry, the futures industry, or where otherwise prohibited under the local laws, rules, and regulations of that jurisdiction. The Promotion is not valid for internal transfers, and is not transferable, saleable, or valid in combination with certain other offers.
Our Verdict
Previously we have seen bonuses of $200 when funding $2,000 or $500 funding $10,000+. The top bonus is more but obviously requires a lot more funding. For most people I’d recommend waiting for one of the smaller deposit bonuses to return.

Do we have to account for stock price fluctuations? My stock (old employer) have gone up this year and considerably in the last 3 months ... do I have to consider a buffer in addition?
it only count the cash transfer, not stock right?
I emailed them and cash, stock, ETFs and treasury bills all count, however, Money Market Funds, Mutual bonds, Muni bonds and Corporate bonds do not.
Wrong
Yes. If the asset price changes significantly during transfer, you may end up in a lower tier once the assets arrive. It's the same for all these brokerage bonuses.
Some brokerages allow you to make multiple transfers, so if your first transfer falls below a threshold you can make a second one to get you over the line. Other brokerages only allow you to fund a single time.
I had a DP a couple months ago from speaking with a support agent who said I could make an additional transfer and contact them to manually credit the bonus (but don't abuse it and fund long after account opening)
Hi all,
Looking to open this account in December for tax purposes.
Thanks
I did this promotion with them. They pay the bonus and there are really no major hassles. Their platform is really designed for high frequency traders. Doesnt matter if you are mostly parking stocks/etfs there anyway.
can i just transfer stocks in or has to be cash?
@guest_1617151 Thanks for the DP. May I ask .. did you transfer stocks?
How soon they pay the bonus?
I received a TastyTrade bonus in 2020. Called today to ask if I was eligible and they said because I received that bonus I am not eligible for any bonus from TastyTrade.
Might want to mark this as taxable only. From the T&Cs:
Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA) are not eligible for the Promotion
How many days do you have to make the initial funding? Many similar offers have language around having 15 days or 30 days to make the initial funding, but I don't see similar language in this offer.
"The Funds must be deposited as a single transaction prior to the end of the Promotional Period." The end of the Promotional Period is currently Dec 31, 2024.
I have same question
Closed the tastyworks account in 2021, Am I eligible to open this again?. Churnable?
no. not churnable
"The Funds must be deposited as a single transaction prior to the end of the Promotional Period." Anyone know if that's enforced? We can't transfer over funds from two separate brokerages, I guess, has to be all in one ACAT request?
When I called customer service, they said to call them afterwards and they'll manually review and credit
If it's not too far apart, just email the CS beforehand, and should be fine.
How long after funding, will the bonus post? My have not yet post after 10 business day
Supposed to arrive with deposited funds. Try emailing support. If you’ve received a tastyworks bonus, you can’t get a tastytrade bonus. Per support, “this is to avoid promo grifters”
Applied for an account, but was denied. First time I've been denied for a brokerage and the refused to give me any additional information when I asked if they needed any documents from me.
I had the same thing happen. They first sent me an email (in the middle of the night) asking for a document to verify my address and then soon after before I even saw the first email (also in the middle of the night) they sent an email saying after DD they decided to deny. I chatted with them but they basically gave me a one liner about management decision and they exited the chat immediately. Super weird.
