Avoiding Fees

Monthly Fees

Easy Checking

This account has a $6.95 monthly fee and is waived if you meet any of the following requiremnets:

  • Combined monthly direct deposits totaling $1000+ – or –
  • Average account balance of $1,500.- or
  • Account holder(s) age 65 or greater.

Gold Checking

This account has a $14.95 monthly fee but is waived if you have a U.S. Bank credit card. Many of us have a U.S. Bank personal credit card like Altitude, Flexperks, or Cash+ which would work to keep the account fee-free.

Early Account Termination Fee

There is no early account termination fee to worry about

Our Verdict

Unfortunately the terms now have the new 24 month language, previously it was 12 months between bonuses. Better to wait and see if the $500 bonus returns. Because of that we won’t be adding this to our list of the best bank account bonus page.

  • Got the $600 bonus on May 5th from US Bank checking
Chase ACH push, coded as deposit

  • I just pushed $1000 from Cap1 360 checking. Here is what it shows on US Bank personal checking:
Description: Electronic Deposit 04/05 Capital One N.A.
    Transaction date: 4/05/2023
    Transaction time: 2:36 a.m.
    Type: Deposit

No "Direct Deposit" was mentioned - will this count?

  • DP – Bonus-earning and account-closing data points:
    – 1/24/2022 – Account (Easy Checking) opened online
    – 2/22/2022 – $5,000+ transferred in from both Marcus and Alliant
    – 3/9/2022 – $500 bonus deposited into account
    – 1/27/2023 – Requested that account be closed (via phone). Disappeared from site immediately.

  • Opened an account beginning of December, used Chase to deposit funds twice. Used live chat to ask about the offer and if I've met the prerequisites, was told no as they weren't tagged as direct deposits. Probably not too smart to ask a rep about it. Can anyone verify if the transaction necessarily needs to say, "Direct Deposit"?

  • Does anyone have the screenshot of the offer that just ended on Nov 21? I got the account opened but forgot to take a screenshot of the requirements.

  • Successful DP with Chase.

8/26/22 instantly approved according to the website and was able to fund, but got a "technical issue" error when trying to finalize, plus an email saying "We’re in the process of reviewing your application...". But later that night got an official approval email with confirmation of new account and deposit.
9/20 ACH push $2k+ from Chase (Description: Electronic Deposit Jpmorgan Chase)
10/11 ACH push $2k+ from Chase (Description: Electronic Deposit Jpmorgan Chase)
    10/19 -$6.95 maintenance fee
10/19 +$6.95 monthly maintenance fee waived
11/8 +$400 bonus posted (Description: Adjusted Interest)

  • 8/19 Opened
8/22 $2k+ ACH Push from Chase, recorded as "real time payment" from my name
8/31 $2k+ ACH Push from Chase, recorded as "electronic deposit"
    11/12 - still no bonus

I have no idea why the first ACH recorded that way. And I lost track of time so way too late to fix it :(

    • @guest_1486240 Looks like you selected the option in Chase where the transfer is done immediately. If that's the case, it wouldn't work. RTP never work for direct deposits.

      • It’s fully user error so I take it on, but I’m super irritated with myself. Thanks for the tip!

    • any update, did the saem around the same timeframe from fidelity, no bonus so far,
