Uber Launches Business Debit Card – Rewards Earning (Gas, Walmart & More)

Uber has launched a Visa business debit card in partnership with GoBank, earlier this year they released a consumer credit card in partnership with Barclays. The new debit card is available exclusively to drivers and delivery partners. The debit card has a rewards program that cardholders opt into, the examples they give are as follows:

  • 3% Cash Back at Exxon and Mobil gas stations when drivers use their PIN at the pump
  • 1.5% Cash Back at all other gas stations
  • 2% Cash Back at Walmart for in-store and online purchases
  • 15% discount on select automotive maintenance services at Jiffy Lube
  • 10% Cash Back on auto part purchases at Advance Auto Parts and participating Carquest Auto Parts locations. (Maximum of $100 per month on up to $1,000 total spending per month on purchases)
  • 8% Cash Back when you pay your monthly Sprint bill and on purchases in Sprint corporate retail stores or online at sprint.com. (Maximum of $50 per month per account on up to $625 total spending per month on purchases. Excludes select accessories sold at non-corporate Sprint stores. Learn more here.)

The card has no sign up bonus or annual fee. Cardholders can opt into 24/7 roadside assistance from Urgent.ly for $0.49 per month (4 incidents total). Cardholders can also cash out earnings on Instant Pay for free up to 5 times a day. The fact that this is a debit card instead of a credit card might present some interesting opportunities, but I am sure they will be quickly shut down by GoBank.

  • Does this to a hard credit pull and count against ones 5/24 status? Thanks in advance

  • Does anyone know if the Walmart benefit died on 1/31/2019 like it say in rewards details?

  • DP: I already have a GoBank card that I use like a mini-Serve. When I tried to apply via Uber-app, I received an error that I wasn't eligible for this account. I'm thinking about closing my existing account in order to save 8% on my $180/month Sprint bill, but when knows if GoBank would let me back in.

  • I haven't given a ride in almost a year (and my account is on hold because my insurance and registration hasn't been updated), and I was approved for the card through the Uber Driver app. Doesn't seem to matter if you're actively driving or not.

  • Interesting... I was under the impression that Dodd-Frank essentially killed rewards debit cards, but this seems pretty lucrative.

Does Dodd-Frank allow higher interchange fees on *business* debit cards than *personal* ones?

  • Applied and approved. Will let you know if walmart MO works for 2% in 7-10 business days :-)

    • They have the terms to disallow. Will find out if its coded to enforce:
Only the use of your Debit Card or Card number to purchase goods or services is a qualifying purchase for the Cash Back Program. The following purchases/transactions shall not be considered qualifying purchases for purposes of earning Cash Back: ATM transactions, teller cash withdrawals, the portion of any in-store transaction that represents a cash withdrawal at the point of sale (including, but not limited to, cash withdrawals at registers), quasi-cash transactions (i.e. purchase of items that convert to or substitute for cash, such as digital wallets, casino chips, travelers checks, lottery tickets, etc.), the use of your Card to purchase gift cards or for funding another card or account, using our online bill pay service to pay bills, transferring funds from this Card to another bank account or credit card account, and transactions conducted at http://www.gobank.com or our mobile application (such as online bill payments or person-to-person transfers).

    • Sorry I cannot get that. I understand that the debit card will be to spend ur money u earn from Uber with. Or can u upload it with VGC ?

        • Yes indeed. You need to be able to pass a background check and do 1 ride every 3-4 months! FYI driving the occasional Uber ride is a good way to get a "legit" DD for bank account bonuses that don't require a specific amount (such as Chase) for those of us who's DD at work is an ungodly mess to change even though we use the largest payroll processor in the country.

          • my assumption is they will go through periodic purges to eliminate non-drivers, and it takes a little while to get deactivated as a driver for non activity. so maybe it takes 2 months to get deactivated as a driver, and then another 2 months to get your card deactivated, so maybe 4 months total.
