UberEats New 15% Service Fee Now In Place (Plus Small Order & Delivery Fees)

Uber has made changes to the way fees are changed on UberEats effective on March 18th, 2019. Booking fees were replaced by:

  • Delivery fees vary for each restaurant based on things like your location and availability of nearby couriers. You’ll always know how much before selecting a restaurant.
  • Service fees equal 15% of an order’s subtotal. This fee does not apply to restaurants that deliver their own orders.
  • Small order fees apply to orders less than $10. You can add more items to remove this fee.

This is a massive massive increase in fees. 15% of an order’s subtotal and then additional delivery fees on top of that seems ridiculous, especially on larger orders. I use UberEats because of convenience, but if the fees get too high then I’ll simply stop using the service altogether. This also has the potential to make the American Express Platinum Uber credit a lot less useful. In January UberEats introduced a service fee of 10% in some areas and a small order fee of $2, but it looks like they want to be even more aggressive with this new round of fees. To help offset these new fees we recommend checking if there are any current active UberEats promo codes.

  • Not good for drivers. I was online for 4 and 1/2 hours made 8 deliveries drove 77 miles and I only made $44 11 of that was tips

  • Just got charged 15% on large order. I typically use this for large orders. This is an unacceptable charge without some kind of cap. This will be the last Uber Eats ever for me or my family and friends.

I don't know if Uber listens to any of these boards. I doubt it, so I strongly encourage everyone here to dump Uber Eats. That's the only way they will get the message.

  • Used to order minimum 3 times a week - just ordered - waaaay too much - done with Uber eats

  • I deleted my app because of them. In my area they charge about $4.49 -$5.99 sometime more. Uber rolled out their fees and now the delivery fee is the same plus a 15% charge. On a $50 order uber wanted $70 to deliver it. Come on now. They already charge restaurants to use their services, they already charge a delivery fee. They expect to tip drivers and not this 15% service fee is so bad.
Be offered but delivery isn't as hard as waiting on someone for an hour plus at a restaurant, so they don't need an extra 15%. For that I could have a night out at a restaurant with my family and still pay less then the new uber fees. The whole thing lost me as a customer. Grubhub doesn't do that and they will get 100% of my business from now on.

  • $17 order plus $2.55 service fee and $6.99 delivery fee. Didn’t place the order and I just stopped using uber eats altogether for now. Sad as I’ve only been using it for six months.

  • I know everyone does not want to pay more for food to be delivered but the drivers don’t hardly make anything right now. We only get paid from pick up to drop off so waiting in line at a drive thru for 45 mins does not pay and if your ordering from across the street we will probably make less than 5 dollars and spend over an hour on the order.

We have no clue where we are picking up from until we accept the order and we have no clue where it’s going until we get the food and start the delivery. So we don’t have any clue how much we will make till after we finish the delivery and most people do not tip. This is why late at night their are not many drivers working. A lot of drivers only work during boost hours because this is the only time we come out ahead

  • I am furious with ubereats for adding that 15 % price hike.... what do they think they are transporting? Gold?
I always try to add 20 % tip wherever I go... I cannot afford to tip and also pay hike.... it was a great idea you used to have... ie delivering meals at reasonable cost.... I enjoyed it.... but must say good-bye now!!!

  • This is business suicide to charge more...without GIVING more. A higher fee in exchange for an on-time guarantee would at least make SOME sense. When the Amex Platinum Uber benefit program ends, there will be a massive Uber Eats collapse. No one will pay inflated prices for cold food delivered by a driver who will spit in your food if you don't "tip" them.

  • Well, it was fun while it lasted (especially if you still have a local Sears or two). $15 monthly Uber credits from AMEX split into three $5 orders (waiting until my place of choice was on free delivery) had resulted in $6 SYW point monthly. More free on free.
