The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • United States Senate Federal Credit Union is offering a bonus of $200 when you become a member of USSFCU. Bonus is broken down as follows:
    • $100 – Open a Senate Checking Account and make five $5 debit transactions within 30 days
    • $100 – Receive two “qualifying direct deposits” of $250 or more within 60 days
    • $100 – Deposit $2,000 into a Money Market Account (APY 1.25%) and hold for 6 months
    • $200 – Deposit $5,000 into a Share Certificate (APY 3.98%) of 24 months or more

The Fine Print

  • All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

Avoiding Fees

Monthly Fees

This account has no monthly fees to worry about.

Early Account Termination Fee

I wasn’t able to find a fee schedule so unsure if there is any EATF.

Our Verdict

It looked like this might be nationwide, but you need to join the VA American Consumer Council chapter rather than the nationwide one. Bonus itself is pretty average to good and worth doing, will add this to our list of the best bank account bonuses.

  • I signed up for this in March 2024. I do not believe I saw an expiration of 12-31-23, but I definitely see it now. If someone has a screenshot of the top of the page without the 12-31-23 expiration, please let me know!

Currently being denied bonus, which might actually be fair, but I could have sworn I did not see an expiration.

  • DP: Closed via SM, next day. Account remains visible in online banking. Login currently works. CAN access statements.

  • I know this is expired, but it seems like a lot of the credit unions that say [state only] are actually nationwide with some kind of donation. Should I just start clicking on everything?

    • Yep, click on everything, and look for "OOS". Or just be the DP you want to see. @guest_1825881

DoC doesn't list everything as nationwide because the flood of applications would kill it before it even started. Plus, there is always a chance an account is closed after getting approve when opening from out of state, and until that bonus posts, nothing is guaranteed.

I will let you in on a little secret...

Almost every credit union is NATIONWIDE...

IF, you are an immediate family member of an existing member, for example.

Sometimes, the family member just needs to live in the right area and not even be a member. (seen that in some Wisconsin CU's)

Some have charities you can join, for the low, low price of $5 or $10. But, they can quickly stop honoring that for those outside their normal footprint.

DP for Fidelity CMA as DD, YMMV

9/26/23: applied for checking and savings account with promo code BONUS
10/4/23: accounts opened with $500 in savings account from Citi Double Cash coded as purchase
10/13/23: $260 transfer from Fidelity CMA
10/16/23: $260 transfer from Fidelity CMA
10/25/23: $1515 transfer from Fidelity CMA (for money market account)
    10/30/23: 5x $5 Amazon reloads
3/14/24: sent message asking about debit card transaction and DD bonuses
    3/15/24: 2x $100 bonuses received

I sent an innocuous message on 3/14/24 mentioning I opened my accounts in Oct 2023 with the promo code BONUS and that I thought I had met the terms of the debit card transaction and DD bonuses. The CSR replied that it was being escalated to their marketing team, then I received 2x $100 bonuses today on 3/15/23 without sending any more information.

I also opened the money market account on 11/1/23 with $2K and still have a couple months before I will meet the terms for the final $100 bonus I attempted.

  • Got my 1099-INT, they only reported the interest earned for the funds in the money maker acct for part of the bonus… only $10 and change in box 1.

    Anyone else?

    • Same here, only have interest from the accounts, no bonus amount listed on the 1099-INT. I asked for a correction and they stated they will not correct. Guess I will just fix it myself...

    • I called 800-374-2758 on 01/02/24 at 3:17pm and asked is there an expiration date to enroll using the promo code 'BONUS' to Earn Up To $500?

I spoke to Tiffany and she said said no, the promotion is ongoing.

      • "Offer expired as of 12/31/2023" is highlighted on the promotion page. I trust what is written down more than what is said by a CSR. Many CSRs do not have the knowledge or up-to-date information and often bs.

Not sure when they added this. But if you have screenshots showing otherwise when you applied (assuming you did it), you can fight if they deny you the bonus.

  • how do I join the (ACC) Virginia Chapter?

during the application or do go to a website and join prior to applying?
