Avoiding Fees

The fusion checking and cash back checking accounts have no monthly fee. The money market account also has no monthly fees. There is also no mention of any early account termination fee in the fee schedule, but account must be kept open for 90 days to get the bonus.

Our Verdict

Money market account is probably the easiest account to open to qualify for this bonus. Unfortunately the hard pull makes it less of an attractive deal, but the credit card funding is nice. I still won’t be adding it to our best checking bonus page due to that hard pull though. Please share your experiences in the comments below.

  • DP
2/20/2018: Opened the account and funded a few days later
    6/12/2018: bonus of $150 posted

Will transfer funds out and close within the next few days

    Very easy promotion. Thanks Doc!

    • Additional DP, opened a 13Mo Cd @ 1.5% as the qualifier, it looks like they have updated funding with CC, attempted to the cash off a MC Debit Card, Associate informed me that funding with plastic are subject Cash advance fee's the card reader even was displaying 'Cash Advance'' (The MC gift card doesn't allow ATM cash W/D ) and was declined) so I funded with cash instead. Going to park $25K in the Fusion for the 1.75%

      • Updated DP - Looks like you can fund with CC - but you have to open it online and not in branch.

    • nice! this is the DP I was looking for

so a purchase and likely no HP...looking tastier and tastier

  • Applied and approved. Went with a CC for funding after zeroing my Cash Advance limit on my Discover. AMEX came back with an error that the card wasn't accepted. VISA did not produce any such error.

      • When I called and asked two different people late 2017, they said that they do hard pulls, and if I recall they pull EQ for most credit except they do a tri-merge on mortgage products..

      • Unsure on soft/hard. Would I use ChexSystems to look that one up? None of my alerts (CreditKarma, CreditSesame, LastPass, etc detected a hard pull on credit).

CC Funding limit was the $5 opening deposit for the savings account (required), $30 for the Fusion Checking opening, and $2500 for the MMA (total: $2535).

  • Looks to me like the money market requires 2,500 parked for 90 days if I'm reading everything correctly.

  • Cathay Pacific. Needed another 5k points to hit an award ticket. Also note the fusion checking gets 1.75 apy on balances up to $25k

  • ok...i'll be giving this one a pass then i think. $150 for a HP just isn't worth it, even if I could get another CC.

Thanks for the info, fellow PDX churner :D

  • I can confirm, that they do Hard pulls on all new accounts, even without overdraft protection, they are an extremely conservative instution. But you can combine the hard pulls when applying for a credit product. I called two different locations, planning on turning wife's Visa into a joint account that is well aged, and also bypass 5/24 rule, as the account is well beyond 24 months.

Wife an in-laws have several accounts, Advantis just opened a new branch in East Moreland area not far from our house, they use to have a branch a block from the wife's work, I'm with a different CU I use with my business as they only hold check deposits amounts over $1,500, and are much more liberal with CL and rates on Visa Rewards, under 10% for when reciveables don't arrive before the statement date.

But that is intresting if you can fund with a CC and if it's coded as a purchase and not an Advance, in theory it could be worth a domestic airline ticket from miles, but this risk of getting an account review or flagged and the purchase examined closer for 20k+, not sure risk of losing CL would be worth the airline ticket.

That bonus is nice and opening a CD is a decent return on $500-1k to meet conditions if denied.

  • interesting...I was looking for a new account to use to MS my new BoA Premium Rewards card. This will do nicely!

any idea if it is a hard or soft pull? I'd rather save my HPs for >$500 in value
