Our Verdict

For eligible people with significant sums of cash this looks like a great deal. Some might even opt for the lower 19-month CD rate in order to lock in a solid rate for longer. I’d go quick on these deals as they likely won’t last. Membership reportedly comes with a hard pull.

  • fyi it took a few days but I was able to open both of these CDs which is amazing

it's a very small credit union so they were working off a spreadsheet

  • Has anyone heard anything from them in branch? Curious if it's still offered there.

    • Called the branch and they confirmed the special is over. Sounds like they have 5.19 for 19 months. They said they run specials often, so might be worth checking again.

  • was this a typo deal? website is now showing 19-month and 37-month specials that are in the 5% range.

    • Most likely because they have tons of pending loans that are way higher than that, hence the need to lock in deposits. They serve poor communities which probably results in higher rate loans.

But that’s just my guess who knows, fyi it’s a credit union though, not a bank

  • Can someone explain how the FUCK this makes any sense for them to offer? They’re losing like 20 cents on the dollar with current rates

  • There are ways to get more than $250,000 covered by NCUA insurance. A married couple can get get all of the following accounts covered:
    Spouse 1 Individual Account - $250,000
    Spouse 2 Individual Account - $250,000
    Spouse 1 & Spouse 2 Joint Account - $500,000
    Spouse 1 IRA - $250,000
    Spouse 2 IRA - $250,000

    • That's not my understanding. An individual is covered upto 250k max regardless of Individual or Joint. IRA may be extra (not sure).

  • I called in to open a cd and they sent me instructions to wire transfer the money. Can an ACH be used as my money is in a bank which doesn't support wire transfers?
