Doesn’t seem to be showing up in all weekly circulars, so might be YMMV based on location.
The Offer
Direct link to offer (p16)
- Walgreens is offering a free $10 Walgreens gift card when you purchase any two of the following gift cards:
- Bass Pro Shops
- Uber ($15 minimum denomination)
- Netflix ($15 minimum denomination)
- Cabela’s
- JC Penney
- SHOWTIME
The Fine Print
- Valid until December 8th, 2018
Our Verdict
Not sure what the minimum denomination is for each brand, but it’s usually either $10 or $15. Make sure to use a credit card that earns at a high rate on drug store purchases. Some people have a Chase offer for 10% back at Walgreens and Drop earns points at Walgreens as well.

Success in the San Francisco bay area. Went to two stores earlier this week and they were both out of stock of uber gift cards. Today went to a different store, grabbed two uber giftcards plus randomly picked a walgreens giftcard (not the candle one, this one has just the walgreens logo on it). The cashier didn't know about the deal, read the weekly ad for this deal but of course the ad doesn't tell her how to do the transaction. She scanned the two uber gift cards (I loaded $15 each), then the walgreens giftcard (loaded $10). The cash register system automatically zero'ed out the $10 charge for the walgreens giftcard. I get charged $30 and get gift card receipts showing the loaded balances ($15, $15, $10).
Can the earned $10 WAG GC later be used to offset the cost of a VGC/MCGC?
Bought a couple yesterday and received the free WAG gc. Went back this afternoon, the system is not showing free WAG gc anymore. Did the promo discontinu?
possiblly it''s already counted in your rewards account. Limited one per account? Just tried in the morning at a nearby store in Texas with two 15 Uber cards , the cashier has no idea about this deal, but manager came to help and went through easily.
worked in Alabama though cashier or manager had never heard of it. They said its limited to two per Balance Rewards ID# though I have no idea if that is true or not
Brought 2 $15 Netflix from a central Cali Walgreens and cashier tried to put in this deal, didn’t work.. manager came in and again no luck.. manager then tried to do a new transaction using 2 new Netflix cards, no luck.. then used Walgreens candles gc and it worked! Apparently sometimes normal walgreen gc don’t work without manager override and in such deals..
Awesome, this worked at my Walgreens even though it isn't in the local circular. (Northern CA). I'm going to do this deal 4x, basically prepay a year of Netflix and get $40 in Walgreens GCs. It's money I would have paid Netflix anyway, so a $40 win. Thanks DoC!
Same here, worked in Bay Area. Per @guest_684555 comments below, the candle light card might be the trick. I did get the candle light card.
Just checked all the pages for SF, no luck - to spare anyone else looking through
For those who don't see it in their ad, the best way to find out is to buy two of the qualified GCs AND snag a WAG gc from the rack and ask cashier to load it with $10. Make sure to scan your BRC before cashier hits total so that IF the ad works nationwide, $10 will be taken off the total so you're just paying for the two GCs. If the $10 is NOT taken off, it means the ad works only in SELECT areas so you can cancel transaction if you wish.
I don't ask cashiers, I've done test purchases to find out if certain deals work at my WAG and most often, they work even if not in the weekly ad.
BRC?
Balance Rewards card. You can apply for one at the register for free and get it instantly.
Better Rewards Card, i.e. their loyalty program.
Reporting from Orange County, CA; not in the local circular. Purchased two $15 Netflix gift cards and a $10 Walgreens gift card, received an instant $10 credit for the Walgreens gift card. Thanks for the tip Mimi.
+1
Just a note, the Uber cards are $15-200. I was able to buy two $15 cards and get two $5 Walgreens cards.
Thanks! Just checked my ad and it IS available in SE Georgia.
Not in my circular here in Denver
