  • Worked for me here in Lakeland Fl today. Netflix 2 @ $15, got $10 Walgreens gift card. Thanks DOC.

  • As mimi posted (the terms) this was limited to just two deals for me. I could not do more than 4 x $15 Uber for 2 x $10 Wags cards. That was in one transaction.
I tried to do a second transaction and it did not work. I was going to try it without scanning my BRC, but since it was going to take a while for the manager to void the whole transaction i just left. As mimi pointed out, the terms clearly state that a balance rewards account is required. So, I’m assuming that’s the end of the road for me, but I will check a different Wags tomorrow just to make sure.
Like mimi said, I scanned my BRC before any of the cards were scanned and it took the $10 right off the transaction. I assume my two Wags gift cards, which the CSR still gave me, are empty.

      • Worked for 2 separate transactions of 2 x $15 netflix GC in each transaction yesterday. Resulted in a total of 4 $15 netflix GC and 2 $10 walgreen's GC, each time using BRC, $30 purchase each time. Did not try to exceed the 2/person limit. BRC required, otherwise the rep is not prompted that offer is available.

Tried 4 hours later at same location with wife's own BRC account. Even though 2 x $15 Netflix attempt prompted rep to offer the free $10 card, she could not get it to work (ended up with $40 total, which they voided). Manager tried at another register and couldn't get it to work, so gave us a total of $20 worth of BRC points instead when we just bought the netflex GCs.

          • So, I just tried again and I got it to work. The only things I did differently were waiting until the end of the transaction to scan the BRC and making sure to use the most plain Walgreens gift card they had (it says "Thanks" on it). So, there may be some truth to what people are saying about using the plainest Wags gift cards. It does not appear that you have to wait between transactions.
Here's the history to sum up....

Monday: Bought 4 x $15 Uber and 2 x $10 Wag's gift cards in one transaction for $60. Tried to do it again immediately after, but I chose Wags gift cards with colorful vertical waves on them. That second attempt did not result in the total being $60. It stayed at $80. Both times, I scanned the BRC before the gift cards.

Wednesday: Bought 2 x $15 Uber and 1 x $10 Wag's gift card in one transaction. I scanned the BRC at the end of the transaction used the plain Wags gift cards. Sure enough, it took the cost of the Wag's gift card off the order.

Two hours later on Wednesday: Went to another Walgreens and rang up 4 x $15 Uber gift cards and 2 x $10 Walgreens gift cards to see if the reason it worked was the passage of time (like no more than two deals a day). Of course, I continued to scan the BRC at the end of the transaction and also used the plain Wags gift cards. It worked! I paid $60 for the first transaction. I then immediately did it two more times, and it was $60 each time.

So, I think it is safe to say that even if there is a limit, it is not properly coded into the registers.

  • This worked for us when we were on vacation. We ended up buying four $15 uber cards...But not on vacation now. May settle for CB if $15 denomination

  • Worked this morning at my local Duane Reade in NY, even though no sign was posted. Purchased 2 Uber gc and got the $10 walgreens gc free. Used Citi Dividend for 5% back.

    • NYC? It's not in the circulars here but was the last time with this deal. Figured NYC was left out

    • Went this afternoon. CSR looked at me like I was crazy when I asked about the deal since there was no sign up.

      • @guest_775156 if you read the title, deal starts June 30 thru July 6 that's why there's no signs up and cashiers don't know what's coming up weeks ahead.

If you're planning to do the offer, make sure you have a balance rewards card (go ask for one at the register, it's free). Scan that BRC BEFORE you scan the GCs including a new WAG gc from the rack that you load $10. If you do it correctly, $10 will be taken off your receipt so you'll just pay for the qualified GCs.

        • This is not necessary. This Deal is not tied to balance rewards, or at least wasn’t a few weeks ago. Here are my notes from a separate comment, in Case it helps.

          —-

Some lessons learned from a few weeks ago when they offered this….

$15 is the minimum uber card that you can do. Registers are hard coded to only generate the $10 gift card when you hit $30, maximum of two $10 Walgreens cards per transaction (so 4, $15 uber cards generate two $10 Walgreens gift cards.

As long as the cashier is okay doing separate transactions, I didn’t find a technical stopping point.

This is not (or was not previously) tied to your Balance Rewards account (no incentive to enter it, so don’t).

Unlike some commenters wrote last time, I had no issue with any of the designs of Walgreens cards. Just pick two and take them to the register with your other cards, and then the cashier will swipe them when the register prompts.

Have several credit cards ready, because card companies don’t like a million similar transactions rapidly back to back and will start to deny the charge. Use of the same card physically a few times and then ApplePay a few times worked without too many denials. I spread it all out across 4 cards.

I bought 34 $15 cards for $510 and got $170 back in free Walgreens gift cards. Immediately added them all to my Panera and uber accounts.

          • Jake, are you in NM? I wasn't able to get it to work more than twice (in one transaction). It could be that I was having trouble with the different gift card design I used for the second transaction. But I notice that the terms set it is not limited to two in NM.

          • This is c&p from a WAG ad with these terms:

I've always known these type of offers were tied to BRC so that it is necessary to scan the BRC first (or give cashier phone# tied to BRC if one doesn't have the physical card). My post was based on past experience(s) doing similar offer like buy any 2 vanilla, get $10 or $5 WAG gc. That offer came almost every week years ago, but now they've become rare :(

        • Interesting. So if I enter my phone number it won't work? And what you are saying is that the Wags GC will not load or it would load and then drain immediately?

    • Just found my local store doesn't participate in this one. Just need to look for the signs.

      • Went to my local Duane Reade and there were no signs and nothing in the circular. Will try a Walgreens later and report back.

  • Some lessons learned from a few weeks ago when they offered this....

    • It dint give me the $10 WGC if I dint use my card . Any one tried to use the offer with no BR account ?

    • Jake, I enter my BR card no. every time I can. Why?

      1. I usually obtain an updated points balance on the spot.
      2. I sometimes receive a paper type coupon from the catalina machine that can be helpful. (I'm a frequent Wags shopper).

      • That’s fair, but the terms said one per household or something. So even though it’s not hard coded, I don’t want my rule breaking activity to be so easily tied back to me.

        • This type of offers are usually tied to BRC so that those who are not familiar how these deals work are surprised they do NOT get the free GC as advertised. WAG may have to be clear on that since the ads I've seen does NOT state BRC required to get the offer.

This offer requires one to bring a new WAG gc off the rack, tell cashier to load $10 in it and scan the two qualified GCs. Register does NOT prompt cashier to scan a WAG gc and load it with $10, the customer should know this beforehand or else, they don't get the free WAG gc. Scanning of BRC (or giving phone# attached to BRC) may be done before or after GCs are scanned. If done correctly, $10 will be taken off the total, you only pay for the two qualified GCs. Aside from main receipt, 3 small pieces of paper will print showing WAG gc and the two other GCs have been activated.

    • Problem is the Walgreens cards aren’t worth much since everything is so overpriced there.

      • I save Walgreens gift cards for when I need a prescription. They accept gift cards, at least in my state.

      • If you only buy things when they're on sale, you'll find that Walgreen's pricing can at times be very fair. Obviously, the non-sale prices at convenience stores is going to be prohibitive.

Also, every 5000 points is $5 off your purchase. Sometimes, they even have coupons that give an instant 5000 points for spending $25, or for purchasing certain items.

If you strictly follow the sales, BOGO 50% Off deals, and use points... you can save yourself a trip to the monstrosity that is Walmart.

    • wow nice post! You obviously know your $hit lol so can we use the Walgreens GC to purchase other GC's?

      • Yes you can! Even visa/mc/amex gift cards at my Walgreen's. Read the GC. It basically says you can buy anything in the store, which is pretty awesome. However, I read that some stores may not honor those terms because their very similar "store credit" cards DO NOT allow you to buy gift cards. So, YMMV. I noticed that when I swiped the Walgreens GC to buy a Vanilla Visa it worked. So, you should be able to get one to go through no problem. But if you are trying to cash in like 17 $10 Walgreens GC for one Vanilla Visa you might try to find a Walgreen's with a friendly cashier or a manager that knows what the hell they are talking about.

        • Dang. Someone else is saying on this thread that you can just have the new Wags GC drained automatically when you do the transaction if you scan a Balance Rewards card. That would make liquidating the GCs MUCH easier!

  • Stack with the Walgreens Chase Offer available through 6/30 for 10% back up to $5.

    • Don't see Walgreen's on my Chase Offers. But, I do see Walmart Groceries, even though I have no interest whatsoever in Walmart produce.

I can't figure out why some people get different Chase Offers. Walgreen's is almost everywhere.

        • I'll have to try using my Chase credit card more when at Walgreen's. Since I shop there pretty regular, it should be a quick experiment.

But, I'm also getting Chase Offers for ADT and Directv, and have never purchased anything from them, with Chase or anyone else... nor do I intend to. So, that theory might be YMMV.

In fact, the vast majority of my Chase Offers are for places that I've never actually shopped, nor dined, as yet. I just took a count, and only 6 out of 24 Offers are for places that I've ever been before.

      • "Walgreens is almost everywhere".

I shop there. What are the offers that come under the statement made? Thanks!

    • Whatever the lowest denomination of the gift card you want. I bought twi $15 Netflix cards last time around. Hulu had the lowest minimum of $25, do not know about Cracker Barrel.

      • Yep. I was able to look up Cracker Barrel on the Walgreens website and the minimum was $25.

        • Cracker Barrell gift cards can be used to purchase fixed VGCs and Amazon GCs at my local CB restaurant's country store gift shop (but not on Netflix GCs). YMMV, of course, but seems to be 50/50 here.
