The Offer
- There is currently a nationwide coin shortage. Wawa is offering the following freebies when exchanging coins:
- Exchange $5 in coins and get a free coffee or fountain drink
- Exchange $10 in coins and get a free hoagie (might be $50 now)
The Fine Print
- Limit 1
- Coins must be rolled or of the same type (e.g $10 in quarters not a mixture of coins)
- This is being done at specific times only (e.g 8AM – 3PM at some stores but every store is different)
Our Verdict
Good excuse to sort out that pile of coins you have somewhere in the house.

Doc, i just came from wawa. They told me $5 for free drink, and FIFTY ($50) for free hoagie. I told them i thought $10 for the free hoagie and guy told me "they changed it."
also my experience
Let me update
If they didn’t limit this to one, I could give them quite a supply of quarters. But with a limit of one it’s not worth the trip.
Funny, as I am sure most of you know Wawa started in PA. We are in PA at the moment and I went to the liquor store yesterday. (In PA they are all State-owned). There was a sign that you had to pay with a credit/debit card because they were out of coins.
What year is it? Do people still use hard currency?
What planet are you from
Yes, it is 2020 not 2220. There are still dollar bills and coins that are legal currency and can be used to buy things at stores that have these things call cash registers that open up and hold all that currency that comes in.
Yes. There are people-a lot of them - who are “unbanked” or cannot get a credit card. There are various reasons, including bank fees and distance from a bank, being paid in cash and so on.
I think the US Mint needs to bring back the dollar coin deal to save us!
Ha. That is a churning legend like Al bundy’s 4 touchdown game at Polk high. I really wish I was a churner back then.
Anyway, the deal was $50 for a shorti hoagie at my local wawa also.
You mean good excuse for all retail employees to swap their 10 dollar bill for a roll of quarters from the register. I'd be thankful for the daily free lunch from work if I was still in retail
What daily free lunch?
Give me money for money, not free food. Then we can start talking.
I think you read it wrong. They're buying your coin for exact amount plus you get free drink/ food for doing it. Source: I work at QuikTrip and I think our CEO is on their board of directors

No, I understand. However I would like the price (money) of the hoagie with the exchange of money, instead of the hoagie. Heck, I’ll take the cost of the hoagie it costs Wawa to make it which may be less than $1?
$11 for $10 is fantastic profit.
I do thank them for being a solution to the Current circumstances though.
Quit whining about it. They don't have to give you a free hoagie. They're giving you a free hoagie on top of doing a service a bank would do and exchanging your coins out for you.
Boo hoo haha.
It’s in addition to cash equal to the coins you bring.
Nothing like a shit ton of people touching the same dirty coins.
Guess J Pow can’t solve everything
no idea what j pow is.
You can wear gloves.
And coin is not as dirty as New York subway poles. People peed or pooped then hold that pole again and again.
I picked up those coins on the subway.
So wash your hands or sanitize after.
