Our Verdict

Seems like there is a points cap of 7,000/10,000 or $70/$100 back per merchant. Pretty sure everybody would be very happy if they got the 50% offers. Gift card purchases have previously worked when doing this.

  • FYI:
I am seeing some new in-store offers on my account, including 15% CB from CVS, Kmart and Kohls.

    • Should be transaction date. I had in-store HomeDepot ones that didn't post until after it expired. I contacted WF and got manually credited. They're very good at following up/calling back. So a little more extra work, but not worried about not getting the credits.

      • When you contacted WF did they ask any additional information. My points didn't post for Kmart and OD. Now rewards dept is asking for receipts etc.

  • Anyone else having a card purchase post with only 1% back (i.e, non-bonus rate)? I purchased a $100 Amazon gift card at Office Depot and only got $1 of rewards. Wondering if WF is screening purchases to exclude gift cards.

    • When was your purchase? Mine shows up 1x per dollar like the next day and then about 3 or so days later the bonus ones will show up.

      • Purchase was on 9/15. I’ll wait a few days and hope the rest of the points appear. Thanks for the data point.

        • Same here. For JC Penny, but not even gift cards. Regular merch.

          9/16 - Purchase
9/18 - 1x per dollar rewar dis showing.

I made $140 gift cards purchase at Office Depot yesterday as well, but not showing yet,

          • My 50% from a 9/15 purchase just posted today, 9/19. My Wells Fargo rewards acct activity was showing 1%. Then I got an email from WF Earn More Mall saying I’d received the 50%. A few hours later, both the 1% and 50% are showing in my rewards activity.

Looks like it takes a couple days to post and posts separately from the standard 1%.

  • KMart definitely does not take credit cards for gift card purchases. I tried myself yesterday and confirmed with KMart Facebook team today that they only take debit cards and cash for gift cards.

Anyone found another decent use for the KMart spend? Thinking of getting groceries and/or laundry detergent...save 50% essentially

Anyone tried KMart online to see if the points posted?

    • Datapoint:
I bought six $25 Shell GC's in one transaction at Kmart today and used my WF CC.
Girl originally said 'cash only' and when asked by me called her manager, who approved the transaction talking to her on the phone, as long as she checked my ID.

      Happy customer... :)

  • I was at KMart and tried to purchase a few gift cards w/ my WF credit card. Cashier said cash only for gift card. I tried twice at different times with different cashier, both said the same. Only me or anyone else? I'm going to try a different KMart and let you guys know. FYI: I'm in So Cal, LA area.

  • Aww man, I missed out on the om/od, unless I just never got it. Closest Macy's is really far away. My local Kmart is going out soon. I don't believe I could get gift cards there ATM. Dunno what to get there.

  • Just FYI- I did an online purchase but picked up in store (rather than ship to my house), and I got the 50x bonus points. 🙂
There's a much better selection of stuff online and it also seems like better prices/promos.

  • Activated the 25% back offer at Staples. Bought two $200 VGC but only 400 points have posted?
    What gives?

  • Did a test buy last week. Took 3 days for the points to hit after buying a Visa gift card. Hit up two more stores today... When those post, I'll consider tracking down a JCP and Kmart. Sounds like JCP might have 3rd party gift card racks? Does kmart?

What a time to be alive. A sock drawer card is getting me at least $360 (I redid the math for OD+Macys+Staples only). Macy's gift card I guess isn't complete profit, but I shop there from time to time anyway.

Seems relatively under the radar too, so perhaps it will be good for another go in the future.

    • The JCP I went to had a reasonable selection of 3rd party gift cards, including Home Depot and Starbucks. Kmart had even better ones (all the usual suspects, including Amazon, gas, etc), but wouldn't let me pay with a credit card, told me cash only. Not sure if it's hard-coded or not.

      • I just now tried to buy 2 Amazon gift cards at KMart but it wouldn't go thru. The cashier tried a second time with a single card and still no deal. Apparently, it is hardcoded.

        • Correction to my previous post....This morning, I checked my WF account and realized that my buying power was only $75, which would explain why I was rejected at KMart. I am not sure why my buying power was that low but it could have to do with some recent payments and a newer account, etc.
