Wells Fargo Now Offers Credit Cardholders A Free FICO Score

Wells Fargo was one of the few credit card issuers that didn’t offer a free credit score to cardholders, in an unannounced move Wells Fargo cardholders can now access their FICO Bankcard Score 2 based on Experian data. Unlike the classic score, this FICO score has a range of 250-900 (classic is 300-850). You can view a full list of ways to get your FICO score for free here. Here is how to access your FICO score with Wells Fargo:

This is presumably part of the changes that Wells Fargo has made to their rewards program.  It’s always good to see another card issuer make free FICO scores available, this is pretty much just a standard benefit that all credit cards offer at this stage. In addition to knowing your credit score, it’s generally a good idea to monitor your credit. This can be done for free quite easily, you can view how to do this here.

  • This score has nothing to do with your actual score but they'll use it give justify horrible offers. My Wells Fargo FICO score is a full 100 (yes, you read that right) 100 points below my actual FICO.

My actual score is above average; I have fantastic rates on two car loans and the best credit cards; no annual fees, cash back....

By comparison, Wells Fargo's score has me at "below average" and wants to offer me one of their secured credit cards. What an absolute joke.

  • not sure if this was updated somewhere (did a search but couldn't find any) but i just signed up to WF Fico score today and it's showing: FICO® Score 9|Experian Data Score range: 300 – 850| Updated Monthly. *fwiw, it's about 14 pts higher than my fico 8.

  • John,

Yes they are using 'FICO Bankcard Score 2'.

I can easily find it in the mobile app but it's impossible to find on their website. Does anyone know where to find it?

    • You can access your FICO score for free on Wells Fargo banking. Just open up your account and there is a link to get your FICO score from Wells Fargo. They are using a FICO Banking Score 2 for their model.

  • It's worth bearing in mind that this particular score uses a very old model (one from 1998). FICO has released three major versions of their product since then: FICO 04 in 2004, FICO 8 in 2008, and FICO 9 in 2014.

No mortgage lender or auto lender is using this score (since it is for bankcards) and almost all credit card companies are using a more recent version than FICO 98 (typically FICO 8 Classic or BE, or possibly FICO 04).
