Wells Fargo To Allow Non Residents To Apply For Credit Cards (Not Updated?)

Update 11/15/20: Terms still have the citizen or a permanent resident alien language. Not sure if the nonresident aliens addition will be targeted or if Wells Fargo decided to delay this or what is going on.

Original post: For as long as I remember Wells Fargo has had a term in the fine print that states:

you must be a citizen or a permanent resident alien of the U.S. to qualify for this credit card.

Wells Fargo recently sent out an e-mail offer that states:

After November 14, 2020, nonresident aliens may qualify for this credit card.

  • After reading all the comments. My question is, "Who Am I?"
I am Working on H1B Visa from last 7 years.
What should I select when WF asks in their Credit card application?
Are you a permanent resident alien? Yes or No?

  • I have just been approved for the propel card, as a non-resident alien (international student).

  • They forget about the resident aliens(RA) (after you paid taxes 3~5 years to US), which is between non resident aliens(NRA) and permanent resident alien(PR).

  • I'm intl student. First time applying WF CC, I applied Propel AmEx this morning. Instant approved! FICO: 790; AAoA: 2.1yr. Have checking account with them.

  • It's the Biden Effect

    woooooooohooooooo

soon all of us with just EAD's only will be able to churn all these bank bonus offers when they remove the stipulation of USC and GC from their requirements.

    • 1. Renounce citizenship
      2. Go to Mexico
      3. Illegally immigrate back to US
      4. Evade taxes while still enjoying benefits of being in US

      Flawless

      • Sorry to burst your bubble but "aliens" do pay taxes. You know all those H1Bs at Microsoft and Google? Yeah, they have their taxes removed from their paycheck like everyone else.
Your snarky comment about evading taxes is disgusting.

  • Do non-residents have less of a recourse when Wells Fargo opens accounts in their names without them knowing? If so, then this is more a benefit for WF.

    • Being cynical, I wouldn't be surprised if the exact phase came up during a some C-level meeting.

      • Next in line would be the illegals. Opening accounts without customer's awareness is WF's favorite pastime. Long live Wells Fargo.

  • Looking the WF Propel page, it looks like they've removed the citizen/pr eligibility requirement. It used to be Point 8 on that page. Applying for the card, and selecting non-resident alien now shows, "Your answer does not impact your ability to apply for credit."

  • WF is threatening to close people’s accounts for inactivity unless they visit physical banks or ATMs during a pandemic. This is how out of touch they are.
