What’s Going On With The Wells Fargo Propel World Card?

A few days ago a reader alerted me to the fact that the Wells Fargo Propel World Card was no longer listed on the Wells Fargo website. The application link redirects to their general credit card page, I reached out to readers to see if they could find a working link but nobody was able to (Wells Fargo Twitter team wasn’t very helpful, either).

I also reached out to their formal media team and they had this to say:

The card is still available – if someone wants to apply in the interim, they can visit a Wells Fargo store.

Vice President, Consumer Lending Communications

Update: Reader VRHunter was also able to apply via the phone.

What’s interesting is that in the ‘leaked’ PDF that showed the new Wells Fargo Cash Wise credit card, the Propel World card is listed under ‘Affluent and High Net Worth’, alongside other cards that are by invitation only. There is a chance that they plan to transition this card to invite only as well and that’s why it was removed from the Wells Fargo website. There is also a chance they are making other changes/no changes at all and it’ll return soon.

The card itself is pretty good in the first year with a sign up bonus of 40,000 points (worth $400, one of the best cash sign up bonuses) and $100 in airline incidentals annually. It does come with an annual fee of $175, so doesn’t make a lot of sense to keep long term. Might be worth picking up if you haven’t already, especially if you combine it with the Wells Fargo $100 checking bonus that also requires an in branch sign up.

Let me know your thoughts/theories on what is happening with this card in the comments.
