Widespread Unauthorized Transactions – Check Your Accounts (coloadtest.com, SUMUP)

A few days ago we reported that some BBVA select cardholders were being hit with fraudulent transactions. Unfortunately it seems that the problem is more widespread than this as a lot of readers are reporting similar fraudulent transactions on other cards, I suspect there has been a large data breach somewhere. I’d recommend checking your own accounts, unauthorized transactions made may include (keep in mind fraudsters often make purchases at legitimate merchants to test whether card information is correct):

  • coloadtest.com
  • SUMUP
  • Wfxb
  • Angela Singleton

To make matters worse some cardholders have reported their card as stolen, requested a new card and before the new card has even arrived new fraudulent charges have started to appear.

  • I'm confused as to what the real solution to this is. I had a charge (coloadtest.com) on Feb 18. I called Amex that same day, reported the fraudulent charge and requested a new card. I never received an update on the fraud investigation either way, and the same day there was a credit to my account from the merchant. March 9 (well after I received the new card) I have another small charge and same day refund from the "merchant". Of course I'll call Amex again to report the new fraudulent charge/refund- but I'm not even sure what to ask for beyond that, as it seems a new card didn't help at all and I already got my money back.

  • Possible new twist? I received a refund for $1.15 from coload test this morning. I had already received the money back from the fraud investigation, so this looks like an actual refund from whoever coload test is.

    • Same here. Original $1.55 taken out 2/18/21. Got a new credit card and the bank took off the charge. Then on 3/9/21, coloadtest gave me back the 1.55 on my new card. How is that even possible? Unless it's somehow one of the many merchants I used my new card for... but still, what is going on?

  • Received alert that a $24.77 charge was made on my Citi DC, from ‘Discount Store’. Chatted with Citi and they confirmed the charge would not be processed. Citi will expedite new card to me at no charge.

Be sure to set up alerts on all your cards.

  • Just got my Citi Doublecash Statement Angela Singleton for $1.18 and coloadtest.com for $1.35 were both on my statement as charges.

  • Just got an email from Discover reminding me to update my recurring charge accounts with my new card number. One of the accounts they recommended I update is... wait for it... coloadtest.com.

  • Both my TD Bank debit card and my TD credit card received charges on the same day a week ago from "Angela Singleton" for $1+ each and on both accounts the next day it was credited back. A couple days before that my credit card was charged by Coloadtest com also for $1+ . I've just spoken with the TD fraud dept and both cards are now shut down with new ones being issued.

Watch all your debit & credit accounts a few times a week for those names - "Angela Singleton" in WV and COLOADTEST.COM.

  • PNC’s agreed to acquire BBVA USA Bancshares, Inc., and its U.S. banking subsidiary, BBVA USA, a deal through which PNC will become a top five U.S. bank with a coast-to-coast national franchise.

  • I have got an issue with my US Bank AR Card. Since late January getting unauthorized charges from Spotify, blocking the card, re-issued new, with a new number, and in approx 2 weeks - a new charge from Spotify coming. I'm getting the 4th card today for the last 2 months. Called their fraud department twice. They said, that it may come through Visa as the card ID there stays the same, and they supposed to fill a request to Visa to stop any previously authorized charges. But it happened again this week. Good thing, they reimburse charges, but I got a stock of metal cards in my drawer now. Not sure this is the end of the story.

    • P2 got hit with $9.99 Spotify charge on Altitude Go, but the weird part was a snail mail form letter from US Bank reminding us that the old Reserve card (that the Go card was converted from) would no longer process recurring Spotify charges. The compromised account was the closed card, but still linked to the new one. When calling to report it, US Bank fraud dept insisted that a replacement card wasn’t necessary. If their whole backend is compromised, I suppose in a way that is true. Fully expecting to have to make more phone calls about this.

    • Same thing happening to me with Spotify and US Bank Altitude. Just got my replacement card, hopefully no more monthly charges from Spotify.

  • Thank you DoctorofCredit.com for providing these news to us. Thanks to this post, I checked all of my credit card accounts. My AmEx Blue Cash EveryDay card had a charge of $1.45 from coloadtest.com on 2/17/2021. I disputed this charge online earlier today. AmEx requested that I first contact support.stripe.com/charge-lookup; I went to that URL and stripe.com did not provide any information other than what AmEx already provided. stripe.com did provide a URL with more information on coloadtest.com (support.stripe.com/coloadtest.com) but when I clicked on that link, it presented an error message stating "Page Not Found".

Based on the other comments here, I expect AmEx to deny my dispute and to keep the charge on my account. I already placed a freeze on this account but it will last for only seven (7) days and I requested a replacement card so, hopefully, my dispute will be approved the first time. I am definitely not looking forward to having to call AmEx's fraud department just to remove this charge if my dispute is denied.

    • You should not do a dispute online. If you have a fraudulent change, you need to call Amex. Not everything is done online. They have questions they have to ask you.... and they want it on "tape".

"If you suspect fraud, please call 1-800-528-4800 immediately and one of our Customer Care Professionals will assist you. And remember, when you use your American Express® Card, you’re not liable for fraudulent purchases."
