Wyndham Announces Elite Status Extension, Gold Status For Essential Workers & More

Update 9/23/20: Points expiry now paused until December 31, 2020. Hat tip to travel4vgnfood

Wyndham is the latest loyalty program to announce an extension to status a number of other relief measures due to COVID-19.

Wyndham have also stated that they will be looking at relaxing elite status requirements for this year, but haven’t made any decisions on what this will look like as of yet.

  • ps to DoC, I was almost encouraged to see your update notation that

"Points expiry has been paused until December 31st 2020"

I followed that link, and see the news buried at the bottom, yet when I logged on to my account, sure enough, points are still indicated as expiring sept. 30, 2020

(as in 6 days from now still....)

(ps, and what so infuriated me yesterday when I called Wyndham was learning that not only was I about to lose the indicated # -- about 7,000 -- but that another 20K or so was set to expire the same day ..... but didn't show..... along with any other points soon to expire....)

Also, when I called in yesterday, the reps and supervisors knew nothing of the expiration date being extended. Would be nice if my "feedback" actually made it up the chain and made a difference -- yet to be implemented so quickly -- but I know, I'm a mere mortal..... not likely.

  • Wyndham is also notorious for shamelessly pushing their rewards "members" to vote for
Wyndham as the "#1" rewards program. (what utter hogwash) Got a "reminder" this morning from Wyndham this morning, imploring me to vote for them.... (blood boils)

Here's a reply I fired off just now, lowlighting what I see as the single most egregious problem with Wyndham. Excerpt:

"If there was a vote for the absolute worst hotel rewards program, then sure, you'd get my vote....

Issue #1..... your rewards expiration policy.  Wyndham remains the only program where rewards expire without exception 4 years from when they were earned, regardless of stays or use of co-branded credit card. (I have one). EVEN WORSE, you make it practically impossible for Wyndham Rewards members to know and plan around just when their rewards are about to expire!!!  Sure, you show only the nearest points to expire -- buried on-line via the account statement. But after that, the only way to find out when other points will expire is to call in, endure Asian based reps with english as their third language, and even then, they have to painstakingly read out each and every point date..... such that it becomes an exercise in complete, utter frustration....."

No doubt no one in Wyndham corporate gives a hoot, so long as they can buy off bloggers (ll, etc) to shill for them so uncritically.

  • Probably one of the worse loyalty programs in the hotel chains, you can’t get shit for their top status anyways. It’s all for PR
