Update 01/19/18: Deal is back with a new round of targeted people.
The Offer
Direct link to offer (our affiliate link, remember you could use a portal to earn up to 8x instead)
- Groupon is offering a $26 AMC eGiftcard for $13
The Fine Print
- This deal is invitation-only. Only those who’ve received a designated email are eligible to purchase it.
Our Verdict
This is a targeted offer but sometimes even if you didn’t receive the e-mail you are eligible for the offer. If you’re interested in the deal it’s worth checking to see if you’re eligible or not. Remember to go through a portal to get an additional 8x cashback. Not sure how useful this would be due to the MoviePass but can still be used for concessions. If anybody sees a link on Facebook, please share as then everybody can get the deal.
I got one last time around even though I didn’t get an invite. No go this time. It’s a no brainer if you go to AMC. Congrats to those that gets it.
Not working. I very rarely get these invitations. Not even one in last 1.5 years.
This is when it pays to have multiple Groupon accounts! 🙂 It wasn’t on my main one, but I got two GCs from 2 other Groupon accounts. Thanks Doc!
Sweet, worked for me. Thanks DoC!
First Groupon deal that I did not receive invitation but works!
How is this (or ANY ticket offer) even considered a deal in light of MoviePass’s $10/month for unlimited movies? I’m floored that these are being offered at all (unless some buyers somehow still don’t know of MP)!
Ummm, it’s a gift card for the theater, no one said you have to use it on movie tickets. Some people still buy food at the theater ya know…. or drinks, my AMC has a bar, and yes it takes AMC GCs. I would jump on this in a second if I was eligible. Floored? LMAO….
True, some people indeed: https://www.yahoo.com/movies/just-how-big-is-the-markup-on-movie-food-87128526582.html
Look out, boys, this cool guy doesn’t eat popcorn and he wants you to know it
+1 this comment made me laugh really hard in a public setting and I’m getting many awkward stares
But unless someone is routinely going to the movies already AND the theater they regularly go to is AMC AND they’re usually buying food this is unlikely to really save them $13. If that’s you, great, but otherwise not really such a great deal for what I’d say is the overwhelming majority of people.
It’s getting kind of close to the newspaper-weekly coupon clipping level of deals. 50% off overpriced popcorn I probably wouldn’t have bought anyway isn’t great. $26 seems like a very deliberately set amount too that’s going to entice people to either go to an AMC theater many more times than they would have or buy more food than they would have or end up with a partial balance they forget about, or have a hanging $1 balance motivate them to go to an AMC theater they wouldn’t have and drop another $20 on.
In the end it seems like a better deal for AMC than most people.
We don’t do Moviepass as we enjoy reserving seats ahead of time for a movie, and seeing it on opening weekend. If I can’t reserve my seats (movie pass) i won’t go.
I think you might be interested in Sinema in that case. Doc posted about that a few days back.
I don’t use MoviePass. I only see movies in premium formats (IMAX, IMAX 3D, Dolby Cinema). I also order online and reserve seats in advance. Typically there’s only a movie worth watching in these formats 6-8 times a year. I pay around $8-15 for each of these tickets since I have Stubs Premier for waived online fees and use promo codes and/or discounted gift cards to get $3-8 off per ticket or BOGO tickets for the best deals.
AMC by me doesn’t have overpriced food. They have a giant order of curly fries for like $5. Feeds 2-3. Obviously don’t buy popcorn/soda. I just bring bottled water. AMC Stubs Premier also gives me $5 every $50 I spend. I basically get a food/drink for free every time I go…
All the theatres around me have poor standard format auditoriums. Poor design, bad projection, damaged screens, bad audio, etc. My home theater is perfect every time so non-premium format movies just get watched there instead.

Not eligible.
Not eligible, oh well.
