You Can Price Match With Dell & Use A Portal

When trying to maximize the $100 semi annual Dell credit on the American Express business platinum card one issue people have been running into is the inability to price match to a competitor and go through a shopping portal. This is because when doing a price match you usually need to complete the order via phone (even if the price match is originally done via chat).

Reader elegua was able to do both a price match and use a portal and the key seems to be asking the representative price matching to send you a quote. After doing this they will send you an e-mail and included in that e-mail will be a link ‘Quote to order’ with your items price matched. You can then go through a portal and complete your order (basically you open the portal as normal and then click the quote to order button). It’s not clear if all representatives have the ability to use this e-mail quote or not, but it could make the $100 semi annual benefit a lot more valuable if it’s an easy process.

Update: Quote to order orders are usually excluded from earning on most portals, I suspect they will work anyway but YMMV.

  • Called Dell, spent 15 mins on the phone with a rep and after a little haggling got them to send me a quote. They were really reluctant to do so, makes me wonder if they lose commission or something similar. Anyways went through TCB and paid on the quote page and got the 17% back in TCB plus the purchase credited back 2 days after the purchase posted (amex biz plat). Not bad, thank you DoC.

  • Echoing what others said about not being able to replicate this. None of the chat or phone agents were willing to email out a quote to order.

  • 2 different reps checked with managers (after initially declining) and both said that email quote to orders were not allowed on price matching

  • I am confused. I open the portal then what? Open Dell through the portal the. Click the quite to order through the Email! That doesn’t seem right!

  • Worst customer services on chat. Guy just wont email me the quote. Kept insisting that it has to be ordered via chat or phone.

  • Dell service is horrible. I spent 30 minutes on the phone trying to get a price match quote email. The rep tried repeatedly but every price quote received was for the online price.
Also I ordered a hard drive on Feb 1 that was supposedly in stock but its delivery was delayed until Feb 28. The price match rep could not cancel the order because the the line he was going to transfer me to was busy, but he gave me a number to call for returns. I could not cancel the order via that number because it the order was "in-process". I eventually got it cancelled after a 15 minute chat session where the agent offered a $10 discount incentive to not cancel.

  • What about a post-purchase price match, for a purchase orig8nally through a portal. In other words, you buy a printer for $200 on Dell going through TCB. 15 days later, Dell is selling that same printer for $150. You make a claim under Dell’s price guarantee. Dell customer service manually adjusts your order to generate a $50 refund to your cc. What happens with the portal/TCB cashback?
