Update 5/31/23: Emails to claim payment went out today (subject: Zoom Video Communications Settlement – Claim Your Settlement Payment). Must claim by September 28, 2023. You can claim via Paypal, Venmo, bank, Amazon, etc.
Update 5/30/23: Email went out today that $32.32 payments will go out soon (keep an eye out on your spam emails too). Paid users got even more.
As Administrator for the matter, we’re sending you this courtesy email to inform you that on May 31, 2023, you will receive a payment notification email that contains a link to claim your payment electronically. Once you receive that email, you will have until September 28, 2023, to claim your payment.
Update 3/2/22: Last chance to file a claim is March 5th. I just did it, it took me under 60 seconds to file, hopefully something will come of it.
Zoom Class Settlement
Zoom has agreed to pay $85 million to settle a class action lawsuit which alleges privacy and security issues with Zoom meetings. The lawsuit alleges that Zoom (i) shared certain information with third parties, (ii) should have done more to prevent unwanted meeting disruptions by third parties, and (iii) advertised its Zoom Meetings App as being encrypted “end-to-end” when Plaintiffs contend it was not at that time.
Zoom denies these allegations, but both sides have agreed to a Settlement to resolve the dispute without further litigation risk and expense.
Who Is Eligible
If you are in the United States and you registered, used, opened, or downloaded the Zoom Meetings Application—including through a mobile app, desktop program, or web portal—at any time between March 30, 2016, and July 30, 2021, then you are a potential Settlement Class Member and entitled to make a claim for payment.
Excluded are Enterprise-Level Accounts or Zoom for Government Accounts, then you are a potential Settlement Class Member and entitled to make a claim for payment.
How Much
- Free users: $15 if you didn’t pay for a Zoom subscription.
- Paid users: 15% of your subscription costs, with a minimum
maxpayment of $25
Important Dates
- Claim deadline – March 5, 2022
- Final hearing – April 7, 2022
Our Verdict
Sounds like an easy $15 for so many people, but the money might be whittled down by the time this is all over, depending on how many people file.
