The Offer
Stop&Shop, Giant, Martin’s (page 11)
- Get 2x fuel points on the purchase Mastercard gift cards at Giant, Stop&shop, and Martin’s.
Gift cards generally don’t earn fuel points at all at Giant/S&S/Martin’s, but occasionally they release offers like this to get points on gift card purchases.
The Fine Print
- Valid 5/18/18 – 5/24/18
- Must use store card to get and use the points
- Be sure to double check that your local store is running this offer before buying
- “We now accept credit cards for the purchase of Visa, Mastercard, and American Express gift cards”
Gas Points Details
Every 100 points gets you 10¢ off per gallon at Shell, up to 20 gallons. If you have 1000 points, you’ll get $1 off. If you have 1500 points, you’ll get $1.50 off per gallon.
- Max discount in some areas is $1.50. In other areas, there might not be any max.
- You have 30 days to use the points. The day of purchase is Day #1. (Giant PA and Martins might expire at the end of the following month.)
- Points can only be used at partner Shell stations. You can redeem the points in a different area from where you got the points, but only if that Shell station is a partner. Check out the gas locator for Stop & Shop and for Giant for exact listings of which Shell stations are included. (Giant PA and Martins might only be valid at their own gas stations.)
- See the FAQ for more details. Some of the details vary by area and store.
- Points usually are available immediately, but I’ve had on occasion where it took a day until they showed up and were usable.
- Pro tip: Use a Shell gift card and you’ll usually get the cash price; it’s especially worthwhile to get the lower cash price when using fuel points.
Our Verdict
Not as good as the 4x offers they sometimes have, but still not bad at all. Readers have said they enjoy the heads-up so we’ll post now and repost when it goes live.
While you are limited to getting $1.50 discount from grocery fuel points, you can bring down the cost further by utilizing the Fuel Rewards program (assuming you have the accounts linked). You can get at least $.05 additional discount, plus so many other deals like card-link deal at the grocery (though reports are this hasn’t been working lately), and this Chase Pay deal.
Use Freedom or Discover to max out the quarterly categories, or use any other card that earns bonus rewards at the grocery.
Hat tip to reader Ann
How much is the purchase fee on a $500 GC?
6.95
$5.95 on variable load up to $500 card.
Next will be the Amex promo and it will be july 1st week before u see MC or VGC again with 3X/4X (based on last year pattern). So load up if u can now.
Check your receipt. I bought three different versions of MC GCs and got 2000 points, not 3000. Guessing on of the GC types wasn’t properly coded in the system. Points manually added by customer service. Also, remember Discover is 5X on supermarkets this quarter
The celebrate version didn’t work for me this early morning. So they had to manually adjust points.
Which versions did you buy? I bought the variable Purple Present and the variable Blue card that says “Gift Card” this morning. The purple presents got points but the other didn’t.
Thanks for the heads up. I too had to talk to customer service to get the full points.
Why can’t the “other” Giant have these promos…
Worth noting/repeating: The MCs in No. Virginia are issued by USBank, which means that each card has a unique PIN, printed on insert within the card package (as opposed to last-4 PINs used by Meta and others).
Thanks for the information. I would have assumed PIN to be last 4 if I didn’t see your post. I don’t do MS with Mastercard, so was good to know. Thanks!!
Always like MCGC that can load onto BB/Serve online without headache.
Aren’t those limited to $200/day and $1K/month?.
That is for online loads, not in-store “cash” reloads. In-store limits are higher.
where do you load serve in store?
I know the limits for the store. Jason mentioned online in his post. I remember either it was him or someone mentioning earlier with the process of how to do it online.
I thought you could only use an AMEX debit card for online serve/Bb load and it’s been that way for a long time?
I got MCGC based on your previous posts on serve threads. I tried linking a MCGC on the Serve site and get the error message
“We’re sorry, we are unable to link your debit card. Please call the number on the back of your debit card for additional information.”
I registered the MCGC online and it has the same name and address as the serve card. Please help.
Hey DOC
My mastercard fuel rewards from my grocery purchases all just posted today!
Are these unloadable at FD or Dollar General for Serve? Mine are still alive.
how do you unload MC Gift card apart from regular spend which is a PITA?
FD works for me. I haven’t found a DG that does Serve loads, but there are many more FDs than DGs in these parts. FDs are YMMV. I have my regular stores that I use. When they see me in line, they know what I’m there for.
No more 35 gallons? I used to bring my car, my wife’s car and a few 5 gallon gas jugs and max out the 35 gallons for free. When did this change?
I think it’s YMMV. Been 20 gal. $1.50 max for a long time in my S&S area, you may be lucky and still have the more liberal limits in your area.
Again, worth posting that these have a high rate of being hacked. So buy at your own risk.
Is this even true anymore?
Agreed. Sounds like a blown out of proportion rumor to me. There have been no DPs other than people saying to “be careful” in recent months. I’ve personally never had an issue.
>There have been no DPs other than people saying to “be careful” in recent months
Probably because we all avoid them 🙂
Out of curiosity, what happened when people had issues with their cards being hacked? Did the GC company refund them?
Eventually. As I recall, it was a painful process, and it took months to get my money back.
