[Expired]1,000 Free American Airlines Business Extra Points For Enrolling

[Update: unfortunately this offer has now expired]

For those unfamiliar Business Extra is American Airlines business frequent flyer program. It allows business to earn rewards for flights they employees earn, whilst the employees are able to continue to earn their regular AA miles.

The Offer

  • Receive a referral e-mail from an existing American Airliness Business Extra customer and sign up. You’ll receive 1,000 Business Extra points and the person referring you will also earn 1,000 Business Extra points (up to a maximum of 5,000 Business Extra points)

The Fine Print

  • Valid from 14th February until 31st of March, 2014
  • Bonus points will take six to eight weeks to post
  • Must have two or more employee travellers (this could just be you and your spouse if you own a “babysitting or “ebay” business).

How To Get A Referral E-mail

  • Send an e-mail to [email protected] with the subject line “Business Extra promo” and we’ll send you a referral e-mail. Please make sure you include your full name and the same e-mail address you used to sign up for AAdvantage. You can also let me know in the comments if you’re interested in giving our referrals and I’ll get you to send out referral e-mails as they come in.
  • Send a personal message to any of the people with referral offers still available in this flyertalk thread with your e-mail address

Our Verdict

Business Extra points are a lot more valuable than regular AAdvantage Miles.  For example here is what you can do with those points:

  • North America to Carribean return: 4,800 points for a PlanAAhead fare
  • North America To Europe one way: 4400 points for a PlanAAhead fare
  • North America To Japan/China/South Korea one way: 4400 points for a PlanAAhead fare
  • North America to Europe, South America, Central America or Asia (excluding India:
    • 1,200 points for an upgrade on a full fare
    • 3,100 points for an upgrade on a discounted fare
  • AAdvantage Gold Status: 2,400 points
  • Admirals club one year membership: 3,000 points

If you only earn the 1,000 points for sign up, you’ll be able to use them for the following:

  • North America to North America, Hawaii & Carribean: 650 points for a one segment upgrade
  • Admirals Club day pass: 300 points

In our opinion signing up for this is a no brainer. It doesn’t take long to complete the application and even if you don’t get any referrals you’ll still have enough for three admirals club day passes (or a one segment upgrade and an admirals club day pass).
