The Offer
- Receive a 20% transfer bonus when you transfer American Express Membership Rewards points to Hawaiian Airlines HawaiianMiles. The standard rate is 1:1, so this means it would be 1:1.20. So if you transfer 1,000 Membership Rewards you’d receive 1,200 HawaiianMiles.
The Fine Print
- Valid until 1/31/23
Our Verdict
American Express has offered a 25% transfer bonus in the past, but that was last in 2017. You can see a full history of Hawaiian transfer bonuses below:
- February 7 – March 21, 2022: 20% bonus
- June 7th – 21st, 2017: 25% bonus
- June 6th – 21st, 2016: 25% bonus
- December 8th – 21st, 2015: 25% bonus
- June 11th – June 23rd, 2014: 20% bonus
If you have a use of Hawaiian miles then this is useful but I never recommend speculatively transferring in case of a devaluation.  You can find more American Express transfer bonuses by clicking here.
I found a roundtrip flight from LAX to LIH for 30K points through Turkish Airlines. Can’t do better than that 🙂
how good are hawaiian airline points. i have a hawaiian trip in mind. would love to island hop instead of going to the touristy honolulu.
Interisland cash rates are pretty low with Southwest in the market. Using points isn’t great unless you need to travel on a Friday or Sunday at peak times.
To be completely clear, interisland cash rates have historically been low, even before Southwest. I’m not denying that Southwest has pushed it down somewhat, but not that much.
Agreed on the rest, though. Using points isn’t a good redemption for interisland flights.
As someone who used to live on the island, there’s more to Oahu than just the “touristy” Honolulu, but whatever.
The other person, Austin, already explained the interisland issue. Besides flights on Hawaiian Airlines itself (which are an okay redemption rate), the best use of Hawaiian Airlines miles is “within Asia” on Korean Airlines. https://hawaiianair.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/528
For roundtrip in economy, it’s 30k, and it’s 60k for the same in business. I believe it’s based on KE’s definitions of Asia, but I honestly have no idea.
