The Offer
Direct Link to offer (contains my referral)
- Joany is offering a $25 reward via Paypal or Amazon for participating in a (~10 minute) healthcare survey.
Joany is a free health care concierge company which helps people navigate the healthcare system including signing up for a healthcare plan, taking care of unexpected bills, and things like finding doctors. They probably make money when people signup for healthcare plans through them, and also by selling aggregated data.
The Fine Print
- You do not need to signup for the concierge service in order to be eligible for this $25 reward, but you do have to give a lot of personal information including your name, email address, phone number, which medications you are taking, and a picture of your health insurance card. The bulk of the survey is asking things like ‘is cost your main concern or is the network of doctors’ and ‘did you change health insurers from 2017 to 2018’ and things like that.
- You are not eligible for the survey if you have healthcare through an employer or school or if you have Medicaid, Medicare, or VA insurance. This is only for those who bought their own 2018 plan with a private insurer, either through your state exchange or healthcare.gov, or who bought directly through an insurer like Oscar, Aetna, Blue Cross, etc, or if you bought through a broker.
- Jonay will review your submission to see if all is filled out properly and they’ll get back to you within 48 hours for you to confirm payment details. You will receive compensation within the next 7 days.
Our Verdict
I have private insurance not through an employer and was thus eligible for the survey. Survey only took me around 10 minutes to complete and was fairly easy. For me, the payment confirmation came with minutes, though they say it can sometimes take up to 48 hours. I googled around and it sounds like this company has been around for some years already (used to be called Impact Health) and has paid out in the past. Update: I received Paypal payment around 24 hours after completing the survey. It came as a Paypal e-check which takes a few days until it clears for withdrawal.
Again, there’s a lot of personal healthcare information given out, including a picture of your insurance card, so only do this if you are comfortable with it. I declined signing up for Joany at the present time, I just did it for the survey, but it actually looked interesting to me and I may sign up some time in the future. They probably hope that most people who take the survey will signup for the service; the $25 for them is probably both for the survey information and for what they hope will be a new Joany user.
Appreciate if you use my referral link for the survey and we’ll each get a $25 bonus. You’ll find your referral link to share at the completion of the survey. Please don’t leave referrals here in the comments. I’ve set up a separate page for that. You can also share with your friends through social media.
Hat tip to maximizingmoney
I never got paid. Even though I got health insurance through the marketplace and can still prove that, they claim I didn’t. Now they are spamming me with new offers. Scam
What if you do not have any health insurance?
Someone here was kind enough to use my referral but the referral reward never posted. My suspicion is that they do not pay out on anyone who uses your referral link unless they use it after your survey has been “approved”. I posted my link prior to my survey being approved due to issues with my id card (which Joany didn’t notify me about and I had to ask them on Twitter so I had no idea my survey was in that limbo area). Someone used my link before my survey was approved by Joany but the referral never showed. Therefore my recommendation is:
1) Save your referral link when the survey is done
2) Refrain from sending it to anyone or posting it anywhere until you get the email confirmation you completed the survey from them. If you don’t get an email confirmation fairly quickly contact them on Twitter to find out what went wrong.
Thanks DOC, used your link. Easy $25
I feel I have an obligation working in privacy security to strongly caution you to reflect before doing this. There’s a reason regulation on healthcare information is so protected e.g. HIPAA compliance–because it’s very sensitive and can lead to unforeseen consequences. The biggest concern to me is the medications, which can be used to proxy what diseases you might suffer from and the immense amount of your PII (personally identifiable information) it’s tied to, beyond the usual name, email and phone number, the policy you’re own itself. All this info could be used to discriminate against you for future insurance policies and even employment. Keep in mind that policy changes can come and go so the protections may vary but once your data is released through consent, you have no protection, especially bc you are being paid which shows that you benefited.
They are directly paying you for your data, which to me is way more valuable than $25, especially since it is so hard to obtain, one from you, and two even from competing healthcare policies.
My $.02

They only pay out to about half of the completed survey respondents. And $25 for the risk of identity/medical theft. Really?
What if you have no health insurance? Do you qualify to be compensated for taking this survey?
No. From the first page “Here’s what’s required to be eligible for the Research Study: You bought insurance through your state exchange, Healthcare.gov, through a broker, or directly through a health plan like Oscar or Aetna for 2018.” And considering how stickler they were over my proof of current health insurance I see now way around this requirement.
I also received money from my referrals already. This really is legit and works. Thanks so much chuck for the post refer your friends you can rack up some good money.
A person here said they used my referral but I haven’t seen the $25 yet. Anyone else seen referrals come through already?
Hi @moresun – the one I’m getting for your survey completion is now showing as “pending” in my PayPal. I did not get any notification at all about it – I just happened to check my PayPal and saw it there. It posted as pending on March 30 with a release date of Apr 4. PayPal fee coming out again, of course.
Don’t know of any other way to track it, other that checking with your referral to see if they were successful in completing the survey. Hope this helps. And thanks again.
Gotcha! Good to know they’re keeping their promise on the referrals, I’ll keep an eye out in PayPal.
Got my $25 payment from Joany in my PayPal. Unfortunately, PayPal deducted their fee. I suggest everyone select the Amazon gift card instead, assuming you’d get the full $25 value out of that.
Ditto. It works out to $23.97 if you do PayPal.
