[Expired] 2x Fuel Points on Visa & Mastercardt Cards at Giant, Stop&Shop, Martin’s [12/1-12/7]

This deal has expired, click here to sign up for notifications to never miss another deal.

The Offer

Stop&ShopGiantMartin’s (offers not showing yet, will show in next weeks circular)

  • Get 2x fuel points on the purchase of Mastercard & Visa gift cardss at Giant, Stop&shop, and Martin’s

Gift cards generally don’t earn fuel points at all at Giant/S&S/Martin’s, but occasionally they release offers like this to get points on gift card purchases.

The Fine Print

  • Valid 12/1 through 12/7
  • Must use store card to get and use the points
  • Be sure to double check that your local store is running this offer before buying
  • “We now accept credit cards for the purchase of Visa, Mastercard, and American Express gift cards”

Gas Points Details

Every 100 points gets you 10¢ off per gallon at Shell, up to 20 gallons. If you have 1000 points, you’ll get $1 off. If you have 1500 points, you’ll get $1.50 off per gallon.

  • Max discount in some areas is $1.50. In other areas, there might not be any max.
  • You have 30 days to use the points. The day of purchase is Day #1. (Giant PA and Martins might expire at the end of the following month.)
  • Points can only be used at partner Shell stations. You can redeem the points in a different area from where you got the points, but only if that Shell station is a partner. Check out the gas locator for Stop & Shop and for Giant for exact listings of which Shell stations are included. (Giant PA and Martins might only be valid at their own gas stations.)
  • See the FAQ for more details. Some of the details vary by area and store.
  • Points usually are available immediately, but I’ve had on occasion where it took a day until they showed up and were usable.
  • Pro tip: Use a Shell gift card and you’ll usually get the cash price; it’s especially worthwhile to get the lower cash price when using fuel points.

Our Verdict

Not as good as the 4x offers they sometimes have, but still not bad at all.

How many $500 VGCs have people purchased in a single transaction at S&S?

hi Tom,
thanks for the reply. Yes my ad looks like that. I am referring to the lines that extend underneath the Earn 2X Points box and are under the 5X gas rewards points next to it. This is page 7. Like I said I am probably over interpreting the requirements since it extends across the page and under both offers.
If you all are buying Visa GCs with no minimum purchase and getting 2X points then I am with you! I just wanted to avoid an additional $25 purchase if that is the case.

What you see if continued from page 6, about another promo. There is no minimum for the VGC 2x fuel points. I just bought some VGC few days back and will buy more before end of the promo tomorrow. Received 2x points with no problem.

Right. It starts on page 6 under the ‘Save 40 cents per gal when you buy any 5 products’. * With a minimum $25 purchase in a single transaction. Only one $25 purchase is required for all Gas Rewards promotions’….blah, blah, blah, then cont’d on next page (page 7). That was my dilemma since the 2X points is a gas rewards promotion. anywho, I’m going for it thanks again for the advice.

So no minimum $25 additional purchase required with this? Looking at my local S&S ad the disclaimer conditions of the deal runs across the page and under the 2X gas points offer. It makes me think that they want me to think an add $25 is required but you guys don’t mention it so I think maybe not.
I have done this deal in the past, sometimes Visa, sometimes MC and it has been hit or miss getting the 2X points, maybe because I got Mastercard GCs sometimes? I can usually talk my way into getting the points added at CS but would like to know the straight scoop on whether a $25 additional purchase is required or no. I guess to remove one variable I should stick with the Visa GCs.

I’m in NJ and my stop and shop circular looked exactly like the picture in the offer at the top of this post. It doesn’t mention $25 additional purchase anywhere. Is the ad in your local circular exactly the same as the picture above? Also, even though the promotion states and shows Mastercard gift card, the terms clearly state Mastercard gift cards are excluded from the promotion. So I would only buy VGC.

Visa Gift Card of Black Design didn’t trigger points at Boston Area. have to let representative add points manually, too much system glitch recently.

Visa gift cards properly earned points for me at a Giant (PA) store today. Whew. It’s been a rough couple of months for me of these published gift card deals not properly working, and the initial reports were pretty grim.

Bad news: the black box Visas did not trigger gas rewards at Giant (MD) for me today. I had to get the service desk cashier to manually credit them to me. Sigh. What the heck is going on with this stuff? It’s odd that both the Albertson’s chain AND the Giant chain keep screwing this up now And why would it work right at Giant (PA) and not Giant (MD)? Is it Blackhawk’s fault?

I’ve made two purchases in Giant (PA). One gave me all of the points, and one partial. It’s not store related I assume. Interestingly for the one that didn’t give me all my points, I got 1400, which is a total that doesn’t make sense when buying all 500s.

FWIW, the Giant (PA) Visa gift cards that worked for me yesterday were in the rose package. The Giant (MD) that failed today were in the black box. No idea if that mattered.

Bought $500 Visa card this morning and the points were credited correctly on my receipt/account. First time taking advantage of this deal. The cashier asked for me ID because they ask for ID for gift card purchases over $200. This is a stop and shop in NJ. Now, what do I do with these gift cards. Thanks DOC!

What exactly are you asking for??
You bought a Visa card, you got your gas points.-
Why did you buy the vgc in the first place for? Use it

Make sure you use your store card first before buying the giftcards otherwise it will be a hassle to manually get them to add the points to your store card for redemption at the pump.

I’ve had points added to my card it took like 1-2 minutes to do. I guess everyone has different experiences. Also when they did it my fuel rewards linked master card was tracked. Which means I didn’t lose any points at all.

Tried it today and didn’t work. Didn’t realize it until I left. Anyone have issues so far?

Which part didn’t work? You didn’t get 2X fuel reward points?

Go back to customer service and have them put the points on and if you used a master card that isn’t linked make sure to link it with fuelrewards.com to get the extra 15 cents per 100 dollar spend added.

I have question on Fuel Rewards. I currently have 2 Dollar off Per gallon upto 20 Gallons. Now If I can not fill 20 Gallons at once will that roll over ? What i mean is lets say Gas price is 3 dollars/Gallon. I buy 10 Gallons – So i will pay 10 dollars out of pocket. Still 2 Dollars off 10 gallons left. SO will I get 1 Dollar off 20 Gallons next time ? i.e. remaining discount spread over next 20 gallons and so on ? Can anyone confirm / explain?

In your situation the next time you fill up you will get $0 off. The “up to 20 gallons” is per fill up.
